The Queen and Prince William Meet With Survivors Of The Grenfell Tower Disaster

Her Majesty The Queen and HRH Prince William travelled to Westway Sports Centre earlier today to visit survivors of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

On arrival, they were met with applause from volunteers and local residents who were standing outside to greet them.

During their visit, the Royals were taken around the centre which has provided shelter to a number of those affected by the fire. They were shown food and clothing supplies, which have been donated to victims of the tragedy by members of the public in recent days.

Dressed in a matching blue hat and coat, The Queen wore her The City of London Lily Brooch for the occasion, an ornament presented to her in 1947 when she was given the Freedom of the City.

The Queen and Prince William spent over 40 minutes at the centre, talking to Grenfell Tower residents, volunteers, policemen and women, and firefighters.

Their visit follows a statement released by The Queen yesterday, in which she said:

'My thoughts and prayers are with those families who have lost loved ones in the Grenfell Tower fire and the many people who are still critically ill in hospital.

'Prince Philip and I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of firefighters and other emergency services officers who put their own lives at risk to save others.

'It is also heartening to see the incredible generosity of community volunteers rallying to help those affected by this terrible event.
