Our wildest Netflix dreams have finally come true. If you’re signed up to the streaming service, you’ll now be able to download videos to your smartphone or tablet to watch offline – meaning that you’ll be able to watch favourites like Orange Is The New Black, Stranger Things and The Crown when you’re on the go. Train journeys will never be the same again…
Rumours have been circulating about the possibility of offline viewing since earlier this year, when chief executive Reed Hastings hinted that Netflix would be keeping an ‘open mind’ about the possibility of offline viewing, but it’s taken them until now to confirm the speculation.
In an announcement posted on the streaming service’s website, Netflix’s Director of Product Innovation Eddy Wu said, ‘While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited.’
‘Many of your favourite streaming series and movies are already available for download with more on the way, so there is plenty of content available for those times when you are offline.’
In order to download your favourite shows, you’ll need to update the Netflix app on your phone or tablet. A ‘download’ icon will then appear on the show description page. Your commute just got a lot more exciting – Gilmore Girls revival, anyone?
