She spoke out about her own sexuality in the revealing Paper magazine article released last week, telling her fans to be who they want to be.
And last night Miley Cyrus made a statement attending the 2015 amFAR Inspiration Gala with a date she describes as 'agender'.
Ahead of the event Miley posted a snap of Tyler to her Instagram page and wrote: 'Meet Tyler (@tywrent), a 24 year old living in New York City, and my date for @amfar tonight!!! Tyler is a queer, biracial, agender person, whose pronouns are they/them/theirs. Tyler shares about their identity, experiences and hopes saying: “My whole life, I was led to believe that there were only two genders. I thought I had to shrink myself to fit into a box that was never going to contain me. It took years for me to find words for my gender identity, and to feel comfortable expressing myself as I am.”
Miley, who wore a specially-designed Moschino dress by Jeremy Scott emblazoned with hearts for the event, was awarded with the inspiration gong and Tyler was on hand to present her with the honour.
Earlier in the day Miley posted snaps from a shoot with her Happy Hippie Foundation - a charity that helps to support young homeless people as well as the LGBTQ youth. Miley founded the not for profit organisation back in May and has been campaigning hard ever since.
She used her Paper magazine interview to draw attention to the issues that the charity deals with and she also used the opportunity to talk about her own views on sexuality too.
As well as revealing that she told her mum she was bisexual as a teenager Miley also said: 'I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult - anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me.’
