Ibiza may be home to some of the world’s most famous nightclubs but you’d be sorely mistaken if you think that’s all the White Isle has to offer.
There’s a side of the island tourists describe as 'the nice side' or 'the nice part', what they're typically referring to is the east coast of the island. And before you think it’s all flea markets and yoga retreats, it’s not (although you’d be looking in the right neighbourhood).
The coastal town of Santa Eulària is a 25-minute drive from the airport and is the perfect balance between ‘let’s see where the night takes us’ and ’let’s have a quiet one’, pleasing both the adventurer and the early riser. While there’s plenty on offer around the area it’s always best to go in with some recommendations in mind. From the best places to stay to the best restaurants for dinner with a view, we’ve collated our favourite spots for your summer ahead.
Transport
It’s worth hiring a car if you want to really explore the rest of the island, but if you’ve only got a few stops on your itinerary, the taxis in Ibiza are a reasonably cheap, simple and efficient way to get around. Worth noting, there's no Uber.
Stay
Riomar is one of those hotels where you could easily stay on site for the duration of your trip and never leave. Perfectly situated on the seafront, hues of orange run through its 60s inspired decor - complete with record players - setting a homely but stylish tone throughout. Whether you’re lounging on the pool deck or having a drink by the beach, there’s a feeling of old Hollywood glamour about this hotel, like it would've been Grace Kelly's hangout had she not favoured the French Rivera. Make sure to dine al fresco in the hotel's restaurant Ocean Brasserie too.
Get hippy
Make your way to the Las Dalias hippy market, which is easily accessible by taxi. Don’t be too tempted to spend all your euros on homemade trinkets, summer clothes and neon-coloured jewellery. Of course, some of it will feel a little touristy, but the market has been a staple Saturday go-to for visitors and locals alike since 1985, so it retains some of its original charm.
Brunch
If you're vegan, veggie or just looking to eat a little healthier on holiday Ve Cafe is where you need to go. Located on the promenade of Santa Eulalia del Rio, Ve Cafe is a laid back beachside venue with terrace seating and cool indoor dining with a showcase chef’s kitchen. Chefs prepare fresh ingredients daily, sourced from the local farms of Ibiza and specialist suppliers.
Go for a ride
While flyboarding, scuba diving and pretty-much-every-watersport-under-the-sun are entertaining choices for an afternoon activity, we’d recommend something a little more relaxing (and fancy)... Cue Fancy Boats Ibiza – which quite literally speaks for itself. There's nothing like seeing the White Isle in all its glory from a chartered yacht for the day.
Lunch by the beach
Set on the golden sands of Santa Eulalia Bay, Chiringuito Blue is a relaxed beach restaurant, and a great spot to refuel for lunch. Presenting cuisine from the east of the region to the traditions of home cooking in Spain – embark on a culinary journey around the Mediterranean.
Go with the flow
Something the locals love to do in Ibiza all year round is practice yoga. In the winter months, it’s easy to find a regular class, or you can book individual sessions with an instructor (who’ll come to you). In the summer months you can do the same, or if you're staying at Hotel Riomar why not try one of the complimentary classes (€20 for visitors).
Dinner with a view
Set in a stunning cove, Amante is perfect for anyone looking to relax in a luxurious beach setting. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Sol Den Serra bay, the restaurant is surrounded by dramatic rocks and lush greenery. These provide an idyllic backdrop for long daytime lunches and fine dining in the evening breeze.
Dinner with a dance
LA LLAMA is an immersive dining experience, where the night moves from the restaurant to the club BELOW. Experience some of the finest food, wine and entertainment, set amongst an open kitchen with the taboon oven as its altar.
Beachside bar
There's nothing like a good drink after a long day at the beach, with a side of live music and a guaranteed good time. Word Of Mouth (WOM to the locals) is a must to visit, and trust me when I say you'll feel right at home. Celebrating music from all genres, you can feel the warm welcome as soon as you step in the door.
See the sunset
If going wild in legendary clubs like Pacha and Ushuaia isn’t suit your style, you can still experience what Ibiza’s nightlife has to offer. The infamous Café Mambo on the notorious San Antonio strip is an ideal place to grab dinner and drinks by the beach. When the sun goes down, the DJs come out. Some of the biggest names in music have played at Mambo. If you can, time your trip to the opening and closing parties for a night to remember.
Beach Club
If you're looking to add a bit of excitement to your day, make a lunch reservation at Cotton beach club. Aside from the beautiful sea views of the turquoise water, lunch is a party complete with a DJ, saxophonist and swords slinging champagne bottles. It's also a great place to have sushi, if you're a lover.
