Stars including Stormzy, Liam Payne, Robbie Williams and Rita Ora have joined forces to create a charity single in honour of the Grenfell Tower victims and their families. The single, which was organised by Simon Cowell (who resides in the same London Borough as Grenfell Tower) has gone live on iTunes and is now available for download.
The song, titled 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', is a cover of the 1970s Simon and Garfunkel clasic, and also features performances from stars such as Craig David, Skepta, Ella Eyra, Labrynth, Paloma Faith, Dua Lipa, Anne-Marie, James Blunt, Ella Henderson, Louisa Johnson, Leona Lewis and Pixie Lott.
On the 'Artists for Grenfell' website, Simon Cowell wrote: 'Following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in West London, the record industry came together to record a single for the victims of the disaster. Over 50 artists gave their time and support to make this happen. The song is ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’. This website has been built to create a donation page which, together with the money raised by the record, will hopefully encourage people to donate whatever they can to help those who have been affected by this terrible event. All donations made here will be used by The London Community Foundation to help those in need.'
The touching charity single opens with a verse sung by British rapper Stormzy: 'I don't know where to begin / So I'll start by saying I refuse to forget you.
'I refuse to be silenced / I refuse to neglect you'
'That could have been my mum's house / Or that could have been my nephew.' Different singers then take it in turns to sing lines of the song.
Alongside the charity single, West End stars including Dame Judi Dench and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be taking part in a benefit concert next week to raise money for the Grenfell Tower Fire Fund.
