Glastonbury is renowned as the pinnacle of British music culture. The iconic 5-day event champions an impressive 46-year history and is the biggest greenfield festival in the world. It is believed that it is now attended by around 175,000 people each year.
Glastonbury 2017 will take place on 21st - 25th June, and the main line up has finally been unveiled. This is what's in store...
Chart Toppers
Following the release of his new album ÷, Ed Sheeran has been announced as the headlining act for this year's festival, along with Radiohead, Foo Fighters and The xx.
Joining them on the main stage will be Katy Perry, who is making a musical comeback and recently performed her new song 'Chained To The Rhythm' at The Brit Awards last month. Lorde has also been topping the charts this year with her new single 'Green Light', and will also perform at the festival - the week after her new album entitled Melodrama is scheduled to drop.
British grime and hip hop artist Stormzy has also dropped a new album this year - Gang Signs & Prayer. Boy Better Know - the grime collective and record label founded by Skepta and his brother JME, which has been making ties with Drake this year - will also be performing.
2016/2017 Favourites
Music-wise, the past year has been the gift that keeps on giving, and among the offering of musical treats are Solange and Sampha's new albums, A Seat at the Table and Process.
Earlier this year Solange won her first Grammy award for the Best R&B performance for her song 'Cranes in the Sky'. Sampha has collaborated with a number of artists over his career, most famously with SBTRKT on their song 'Hold On', and also features on Drake's new album More Life (2017), on the track '4422'.
Throwbacks And Comebacks
The Glastonbury line up also boasts some much-loved noughties artists; 'It Wasn't Me' singer Shaggy will perform, along with Craig David who has been making his comeback over the past couple of years and was nominated for British Male Solo Artist at the Brits this year.
Dizzee Rascal - who was big at the end of the noughties with songs such as 'Dance Wiv Me', 'Fix Up Look Sharp' and 'Dirtee Cash' - is making his comeback and will also be performing this summer.
Also popular in the noughties but set on making a return to the music scene is British rapper Wiley - the artist behind club classics including 'Wearing My Rolex' and 'Heatwave' (the songs you definitely danced to on yours girls holiday when you were 17).
Festival Regulars
Festival favourites including Royal Blood, disco funk band Chic, Annie Mac, Major Lazer and Alt J will also be at Glastonbury.
Up-And-Coming
On the newcomer front, Ben Coyle-Larner, aka Loyle Carner, an ex-pupil from Brit School, is a South London-based hip hop artist who will be making his foray into big-time music territory this summer.
His work, deemed by NME as 'sensitive and eloquent', has been growing in popularity over the past few years, and his debut album entitled Yesterday's Gone, dropped earlier this year, was described as 'confessional hip-hop' by The Guardian.
