It was recently revealed that gin was named the tipple of the year, after the Wine And Spirit Association reported that sales had reached an astonishing £1 billion.

And it's hardly surprising, as nothing perks us up on a Friday more than the utterance of that one, heavenly word. Gin. And today's news has us quickly refreshing the company's homepage.

Remember when we old you that a newly advertised 'ginternship' would enable you to spend your days 'trying new gins, new mixers and visiting distilleries’, all thanks to I Love Gin?

Well, after receiving thousands of applications, the company have yet to find their perfect 'gintern' and have revealed that they are now looking to hire someone in 2017 instead. Erm, we think this might be the best news we've heard all week...

“We were so overwhelmed with demand, over 4,000 applicants, that we couldn't work through them all before Christmas," the company told The Bristol Post. "We're looking for an enthusiastic gin-loving intern - 'Gintern' as we like to call it - who will be happy to spend their days trying new gins, new mixers, finding new brands to work with, visiting distilleries, pairing gins and "ginspiring" us with their new-found knowledge."

The ‘gintern’ will be required to ‘travel around the UK and parts of Europe discovering new gins to work with and of course sampling them’. Well, that certainly beats working late.

And if that’s not enough to sway you, the job description outlines that the role is pretty flexible. One day you could be in Edinburgh; the next, you’ll be heading to London to launch an event.

The internship runs for six months but if you're up to scratch on your gin tasting skills, there might just be a full-time role up for grabs at the end of it. Talk about the dream.

Plus, you only need to visit the office once or twice a month, meaning you can test the gin from the comfort of your own home. Oh, it’s a hard life…

Sound like a drunken dream? Well, the small print states that in order to apply you need to be over eighteen (that’s a no-brainer), hold a driving license (for all that travelling you’ll accomplish, you lucky thing) and of course, must love gin. Well, that’s a given.

So what are you waiting for? Hand in your notice and get filling out the application form people.

We can’t help but be a smidge jealous…
