How we put the best non-chocolate advent calendars to the test:

If you're anything like me, the countdown to Christmas is half (or the majority) of the fun. And, this year I've taken it upon ourselves to find the best non-chocolate advent calendars of the year. Fashion commerce writer, Gemma Lavers, has tested advents from all categories - jewellery, beauty, alcohol and even puzzles, to find the best. From 12-day selections that keep it simple but sweet, to full-blown 25-day extravaganzas packed with luxury treats, I've curated the top 20 non-chocolate advent calendar ideas to make the run up to Christmas feel extra special. Whether you're after a little daily indulgence or want to splurge on a full advent experience, these are the ones to invest in. As you might already know, as we're still in September, not all advent calendars have fully launched yet. So, I'll be updating this piece weekly with all the information you need to know; release dates, waitlist, availability, pre-order status, the lot.

So how did I actually put the non-chocolate advents to the test? You can read about how Grazia tests products here, but let me summarise for you. To begin with, I didn't just look at what's inside (although let's be honest, that's extremely important). I considered a handful of important factors, everything from value for money to number of days and build quality. My aim was to find calendars that deliver pure joy, whether you're thinking about buying one for yourself or as a gift to someone - no chocolate required.

Papier, 24 Days of Desk DelightsGrazia/Gemma Lavers, Papier

Fashion commerce writer, Gemma Lavers says: 'I can't say that the words 'do you know how I'd like to countdown to Christmas? With 24 days of brand-new stationery' have ever come out my mouth, but, the Papier advent calendar really surprised me. Inside the two-drawer box is an array of smaller boxes, each are very aesthetically designed and numbered. For me, a couple of highlights are its wiggle ballpoint pen and gratitude journal - two things I'll absolutely be taking into 2026 with me. It has a cumulative value of £268, meaning that you can save over £169 by buying all of the toys as an advent, rather than individually. At the end of the 24-day countdown, you'll see a sweet Christmas scene from all different parts of the world, and you can build it day-by-day. Best beer advent calendar

Non-Chocolate Advent CalendarsBrewdog

Fashion commerce writer, Gemma Lavers says: 'The very first thing I'd say about the Brewdog advent calendar is don't underestimate its size - it's genuinely huge (and heavy). But, when an advent arrives this big, you just know it's going to be packed with tons of excellent products. Brewdog's 2025 advent calendar isn't one to be sniffed at, particularly if you want to test and try the entire Brewdog range throughout December. As well as a selection of festive beers, you'll also find an exclusive glass and pin badge hidden behind one of the 24 doors (which I think is a nice addition as opposed to 24 days of pure beer). Non-Chocolate Advent Calendars: FAQs

What is the most popular non-chocolate advent calendar?

When it comes to non-chocolate advent calendars, beauty ones are definitely leading the charge. Retailers like Space NK, Selfridges and Look Fantastic have long been favourites, offering a mixture of skincare, makeup and fragrance treats behind each door. Charlotte Tilbury's calendar also gets plenty of love for its high-end beauty goodies.
For those looking to indulge each day of December without breaking the bank, more affordable options like Papier's calendar (which often sells out) and MOTH Cocktails' calendar, packed with small cans, are just as popular. Even Fortnum & Mason's, with its blend of festive luxury, continues to be a top choice for those seeking something extra special.

What are the best adult advent calendars?

The idea of a chocolate advent calendar has been completely revolutionised by brands offering more than just chocolate behind each door. For the beauty-obsessed, there are calendars packed with luxe skincare, makeup and fragrances. Or, if you're into more sparkles than skincare, jewellery advent calendars offer dazzling daily pieces, from earrings to necklaces. Foodies are also in for a treat with gourmet delights like artisan cheeses, tea and even matcha. For individuals who enjoy a festive tipple pre-big day, alcohol advent calendars have become a thing too, in the form of beer, gin, wine, spirits, whiskey, the list goes on. Ultimately what I'm trying to say here is there really is an advent calendar for everyone that's far from your average chocolate fix.

What is the most luxurious advent calendar in the UK?

When it comes to luxury advent calendars, a few names really stand out if you're looking to spoil yourself (or a loved one) this Christmas. Diptyque's advent calendar is a coveted favourite, with its curated selection of candles and fragrances, also in the running is Penhaligon's, for iconic scents and a daily dose of high-end perfume. Liberty's offering is always a showstopper, packed with all sorts of bits and bobs from skincare, to fragrance, to beauty.

Are non-chocolate advent calendars worth the money?

The final verdict is yes, non-chocolate advent calendars are worth it, if, you can find one that suits your lifestyle or interests. I think that beauty advent calendars are always a win, especially if they include something you've had your eye on for a while, or a full-size version of a product you've been meaning to replace. Sometimes you'll find that even one or two products are worth double the calendar's price tag.
Same goes for food and drink versions - whether it's Fortnum & Mason's epic selection or a gin and tonic pairing, usually they're well worth the money.
All of these non-chocolate calendars don't just give you a simple daily treat - they give you moments of indulgence, that, trust me, feel way more exciting than a chocolate fix. Yes, chocolate can be exciting, but as exciting as a new moisturiser to try out or beer to enjoy? Probably not. Just make sure you pick one that's packed of goodies you'll actually use beyond 25th December.

Are chocolate advents a British thing?

Chocolate advent calendars aren't just a British thing, no. They're definitely a huge part of Christmas in the UK, but it's not something that's exclusively British. The tradition of using an advent calendar as a way to count down the days until Christmas started in Germany, in fact, but the idea of putting chocolates behind each door caught on in many countries - the UK being one of them.
