The White House Gender Pay Gap Is Worse Than The US Average

Women working in Donald Trump’s White House are experiencing a gender pay gap worse than the US national average, according to new analysis by CNN.

Female employees at the White House earn an average salary of 80 cents to every dollar earned by their male colleagues, while the national average is 82 cents to the dollar according to the US Labour Department.

The average salary for male workers was around $104,000, according to the White House’s annual report to Congress, whereas for women it was $83,000.

The data suggests that the main reason for this disparity in pay is that female employees typically tend to hold lower-ranking jobs, something that would need to change in order for this imbalance to be addressed. The gender split at the President’s official workplace is roughly even, with 47 percent of regular employees female and 53 percent male.

According to CNN, the top salary for permanent White House employees is $179,700, or around £140,000: of the 22 people earning the top rate, only six are women.

President Trump’s daughter Ivanka sees herself as an advocate for closing the gender pay gap, tweeting on April 4th that ‘#EqualPayDay is a reminder that women deserve equal pay for equal work. We must work to close the gender pay gap!’

Ivanka is currently serving as an assistant to the President in an unapid capacity, a role that was eventually confirmed following widespread concern from ethics experts about the nature of her influence in the White House.
