Has the current icy weather and dire political situation got you dreaming of faraway lands? Well this news might convince you to pack those bags.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) yearly report into gender equality is just in, and it's bad news for the UK. Rather depressingly, the UK didn't make the top ten list. Coming in at number 18 on the list, the new report highlights how far we have to go to achieving gender equality here in Britian.

The report looks at the gender equality within 145 countries across the globe, examining ‘how well they are leveraging their female talent pool, based on economic, educational, health-based and political indicators’.

Coming in at number one is Iceland, shortly followed by its Scandinavian neighbours Norway, Finland and Sweden. Hardly a shock considering Scandinavia’s forward thinking maternity and paternity policies.

However, it is important to note that while these countries offer the smallest gender pay gap, there is still a significant gap there.

At the other end of the scale, the worst countries for gender equality unsurprisingly include war-torn Yemen, Pakistan and Syria.

See the full top tens below.
