Look out Taylor, turns out your squad might not be as all-powerful as you think. A new study into friendships between Tel Aviv University students has revealed some pretty depressing stats.
According to the survey published by PLOS ONE, only 50% of friends interviewed had reciprocal feelings. Awkwaaaard.
The study then takes it a step further and delves into the correlation between friends and physical activity. The results reveal that if a friend doesn’t consider you a friend back then they’re less likely to influence your physical activity. But we’re taking this as a positive and a pretty good excuse if you don’t fancy trekking to the gym mid-week…
Yet this news has admittedly left us questioning who our real BFFs are. Luckily for us, the study reveals that there are two signs you need to look out for when undergoing your annual Facebook cull…

If you and your ‘friend’ have a lot of mutual mates then turns out you might be in luck, as it’s likely the feeling is mutual. Phew!

But if your fellow squad member has a lot more friends than you then chances are it isn’t reciprocal, meaning it's time to call it quits...
This frankly saddening news comes after we reported that science has proven that we can only have five friends. Look on the bright side and imagine all the money you'll save on missed birthdays. Weep.
