FacebookMessenger is getting a modern makeover. And it’s the best thing ever – with a roster of gender-diverse emojis.
Finally!
Just weeks after Google announced it’s plans to include emojis of professional women, it appears the proposal will soon become a reality this month as it rolls out 1,500 (!) new characters - which will become available on Facebook’s Messenger service on the web, iOS and Android.
Messenger announced it will be introducing the first female police officer, runner, pedestrian, surfer and swimmer on any platform.
"Nearly 10% of mobile sends in Messenger include emojis," said developers in a new blog post on Facebook. “However, not all platforms have kept up with emoji standards as they've evolved - which means sometimes the emoji you wanted to send wasn't the one that showed up.”
Sure, we’ll still be using the dancing lady emoji incessantly, but,y’know, we can do other stuff too…
Alongside the changes, Messenger is also adding the ability to set skin tones.
“In an effort to make the emojis you send a better representation of our world, you will also be able to pick the skin color you prefer.”
“All you have to do is set the color you want your default emojis to be when Messenger launches, and your emojis after that will follow your preference.”
Oh and they’ll also be emoji characters with red hair for the first time ever.
