The conniving and yet weirdly alluring serial killer Joe Goldberg - played by Penn Badgley - will be back on our screens soon. This week Netflix announced that YOU season 4 now has a release date. Netflix have actually pushed the date forward and split the season in two. Rejoice! Naturally, Twitter had a meltdown and fans have already started theorising about what's to come. Whilst it may be very unrealistic to have got away with so many murders, we still can't get enough of Joe's shenanigans.

What happened at the end of You Season 3?

Let's remind ourselves about the explosive ending of season 3. After Joe outsmarted his wife Love, he leaves her for dead. Before he runs away, Joe writes a social media post which frames Love for killing him, then taking her own life. He then chops off his toes, and puts them in a pie, so it really looks like she did kill him. He flees, not before setting the house on fire with Love inside, leading to a massive explosion.

In a surprise twist, the season three finale found Joe in a Parisian café chasing after Marienne (Tati Gabrielle). While sipping a coffee, Joe fantasised about running into her in Paris. Got all that?

What will YOU Season 4 be about?

We now know that Joe is in our very own capital city, London! Joe will pose as a college professor "Johnathan Moore" whilst he carries on with his schemes. Joe says in a teaser video, 'I'm not the lovable bookstore manager in New York, or the shop clerk in LA, or the doting husband in the suburbs now. Not anymore.' He continues, 'Allow me to reintroduce myself: I’ve gone through a bit of refinement upon crossing the pond. And living in London has allowed me to bury the past, if you will.'

He adds, not entirely convincingly, 'No, this time around, I’m focusing on academia and instruction, while keeping my typical extracurricular activities strictly professional.' Sure, Joe!

Showrunner Sera Gamble previously toldCollinderwhat fans can expect from Joe going forward. She admitted there is 'a lot' to explore in terms of Joe's baggage. 'I feel like season three was a season of a huge amount of just loss and tragedy for him. And we leave him having lost or felt like he had to let go of everything he cared about really.'

She continued, 'So the story from here, is about how he gets any of that back or how he finds something else, because if the Joe you met in the first scene of the pilot, where the bell rings in the book shop, and then the girl in the jeans walks in, if he had one hole he wanted to fill in his heart, now he has like 17.' It looks like Joe will get even more dangerous... if that's possible.

When will YOU part 1 and 2 air?

We don't have too long to wait for more YOU: Netflix has announced that part 1 of the fourth season will premiere on 9th February, followed by part 2 on 9th March.

Who is cast in YOU Season 4?

Now Love is out of the way, Joe needs to focus his attention somewhere else...

Netflix have teased that the new season will introduce a 'new crew of posh friends' for Joe including,' Fiercely loyal art gallery director Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), outspoken literature major Nadia (Amy Leigh Hickman), irreverent author Rhys (Ed Speleers), wild aristocratic socialite Phoebe (Tilly Keeper) and her boyfriend Adam (Lukas Gage).'

Meanwhile, other new characters include, 'entrepreneur Sophie (Niccy Lin) and her introverted author brother Simon (Aidan Cheng), uber-privileged Oxford grad Gemma (Eve Austin), potty-mouthed former sportsman Connie (Dario Coates) and Nigerian princess/cryptocurrency aficionado Blessing (Ozioma Whenu).'

Charlotte Ritchie as Kate

Kate is the the new female lead starring opposite Joe Goldberg. According to Deadline, 'she’s smart, independent, suspicious, misses nothing. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, a brick wall to everyone else.'

The announcement continues: 'The daughter of a chaotic, bohemian single mother, Kate worked hard to create the life she now leads. She’s an art gallery director whose job means managing tempestuous artists.' Apparently, Kate is 'especially protective of best friend Lady Phoebe, a sweet and trusting person whose extreme wealth and fame tend to attract opportunists.' It's got us thinking could this series include the world of British upper class? Think Made In Chelsea but with a twist.

Things reportedly go sour when Kate’s boyfriend, Malcolm, befriends Joe and invites him 'into their privileged world.' However Kate, is not fooled by Joe's charming persona. She 'not only immediately dislikes him, she strongly suspects something about the man is not what he seems.'

Perhaps Lady Phoebe may be one of Joe’s new obsessions ( as we know he can have a few at once), and detective Kate may be the one person who can see through Joe’s games this season. Has Joe finally met his match?

Lukas Gage as Adam

The White Lotus and Euphoria alum Lukas Gage will also star in the show's fourth season as Adam, 'an ex-pat American, the youngest son of a wealthy East-Coast magnate.'

White Lotus was the binge-worthy show of last summer – and Gage’s performance as Dillon, a staffer at The White Lotus hotel (which includes THAT sex scene in episode ‘Recentering’) made him the talk of the internet.

According to his character description, Adam is 'famous for spectacularly failing to meet the standards of his successful, venerable family. An entrepreneur and a gambler, Adam is a warm and funny party host and fast friend. But underneath, Adam is hiding a trove of secrets and papering over problems with heavy self-medication.'

Deadlinerevealed that his character might be just as shady as Joe. 'Adam takes big, risky swings, living by the truism that a good businessman does absolutely anything he can get away with. Does he love his wealthy, titled girlfriend, or is he using her? There’s no doubt he’s manipulating his friends; the only question is how far he’d go…'

Perhaps Joe and Adam will go head to head - they both seem willing to go to great lengths to get what they want.

Will Joe return for his son Henry?

At the end of season three, Joe killed his wife Love (Victoria Pedretti) and left behind their baby Henry. Viewers were left wondering if Joe, however cold-blooded, was really just going to abandon his son forever.

Showrunner Sera Gamble promised answers, 'That's going to be an ongoing conversation, because no, you can't pretend something that huge about a character didn't happen," Gamble said in an interview with E! News. 'I think it will shape him from this moment forward. And even his exact plan of when and if he would return for his son is something that we will...come together and talk about for hours and hours and hours.'

Will Cardi B star in YOU Season 4?

Now whether this will come to light or not - we can only dream. Rapper Cardi B and Penn had an exciting Twitter exchange last year and Cardi put herself forward for a role in season 4. Cardi B tweeted, 'So it's episode 1 and I'm at Paris Fashion week shutting it down! I turn around and there stands YOU. Ok finish it off @netflix.'

When questioned about a possible Cardi cameo Penn didn't give much away. 'Well, I don't know, I definitely can't say,' he told host Jimmy Kimmel. 'But there is actually—I believe this is true—there's an actual Change.org petition.' It should be noted that Cardi B's Twitter profile picture is still a picture of Joe Goldberg 5 months later. Give the people what they want Netflix!
