The minute creator Lena Dunham confirmed that there were parallels between her own life and the storylines within Too Much – speculation has been rife as to who certain characters are based on.
Obviously most of the conversation concerns the lead Jessica – brilliantly played by Hacks’ Meg Stalter – after Lena admitted to Variety, ‘It’s certainly not quote-unquote based on a true story. But like everything I do, there is an element of my own life that I can’t help but inject.’
That therefore suggests that Will Sharpe’s character Felix could have been inspired by Lena’s real-life romance with musician Luis Felber, whilst her ex-boyfriend Zev is reminiscent of Lena’s ex-boyfriend Jack Antonoff.

But really, we’re curious about the character of Wendy Jones aka a stunning knitting influencer who’s a true girls’ girl, played by Emily Ratajkowski.
Who is Wendy from Too Much based on in real life?
If the internet is anything to go by, names like Lorde and Margaret Qualley – the now-wife of Jack Antonoff – have been thrown into the mix.
Now nothing has been confirmed as to who the basis for certain characters are, but another name that has been suggested is Carlotta Kohl.
It’s well-documented that Lena moved to the UK following a break-up with music producer Jack after dating for five years and that before news of their break-up became public in 2018 a story seemed to suggest that Jack had already moved on with model Carlotta. Indeed a source claimed at the time that the pair ‘had been slowly breaking up for the last six months.’

Now, in Too Much after Jessica and Zev break-up following a seven year relationship, Zev immediately starts dating Wendy. Cut to the final episode *spoiler alert* when Jessica and Wendy meet up. When Wendy reveals that she's done with Zev during their meeting, she explains Zev had originally told her that he and Jess had been separated for six months before they officially broke up… Coincidence?
The speculation about Lorde inspiring Megan in Too Much comes from the rumours that after Lena and Jack’s split, the music producer started dating the Australian hitmaker. Lorde and Jack have always denied such speculation however and Lena herself said in an interview in 2018, ‘I don’t think anything happened between them. I can never know someone else’s life.
‘I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it. We haven’t talked since Jack and I broke up. It was awful, and I couldn’t do anything about it except trust that what he was saying to me was true.’
