If you've been watching and enjoying Netflix's hit show Adolescence, you might recognise a few familiar faces on your screen.

One of these is Faye Marsay, who plays Detective Sargeant Frank in the show. She joins the likes of Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, newcomer Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty in the star-studded cast, which follows Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old who has a run in with the justice system while his family deals with the repercussions at home.

Detective Sergeant Misha Frank investigates Jamie's case alongside DI Luke Bascombe - but where have you seen Faye before? Here's what you need to know.

Who is Faye Marsay?

Faye Marsay is a British actress who was born in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. In the past, Faye has spoken about her 'typical working class northern family' - she has a mother who works as a secretary for the NHS, while her father is a steelworker and firefighter.

She told The Protagonist Magazine that moving to London was a huge adjustment from the North. 'I found it difficult for the first year I was here to be honest. The pace and the sheer volume of people took some getting used to. It is an amazing city, though, and I love how there is always something to do or see here,' she says.

How old is Faye Marsay?

Faye was born on 30th December 1986, making her 38-years-old.

What else has Faye Marsay been in?

Faye has some pretty impressive acting credentials. She's starred in major shows, including Ten Pound Poms, Lady Chatterley's Lover, McMafia, Doctor Who, Vera, The White Queen, Game Of Thrones and The Bletchley Circle.

In a previous interview with The Independent, Faye opened up about her approach to acting and interviews. When asked about an old quote she said about being 'one of those actors who likes to kick the s*** out of myself', Faye responded: 'God, I wish I could go and redo all the things I said when I was young and nervous,' she says. 'Now, I approach roles with much more kindness to myself. I mean, obviously imposter syndrome still reigns strong. But yeah… I feel sad that I said that about myself back then.'

Ahead of the return of series two of Ten Pound Poms, where she stars alongside Michelle Keegan, Faye also spoke about what's in store for her character, Annie. 'Annie's ultimately trying to carve out a place where she feels valued away from the family unit and her identity as a mother, grandmother and a wife,' she told the BBC. 'Now Annie's left England, there's an opportunity there for her to find out how far she can go on her own journey.'

Is Faye Marsay married?

We aren't sure if Faye Marsay is married, or is in a relationship.

In a previous interview with InStyle about Lady Chatterly's Lover, Faye spoke about her admiration for female directors. 'In terms of female directors and male directors, there should be a revolution within women telling women's stories,' she said. 'I think that that is happening. If you look at amazing writers and actors and people taking control, Michaela Coel for example, who wrote I May Destroy You; Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag; Daisy May Cooper — all these really important women that are taking charge of the story and putting their version of it, the version that is true because it's told from the female perspective.'
