Could Vicki McClure BE any more brilliant? After killing it last year as the cold-hearted journalist in unexpected ITV smash Broadchurch, the 30-year-old just finished up as DC Kate Fleming in BBC2's Line Of Duty - plus there's another *This Is England *on the way that she's due to start filming later this year (hooray!). In between all that however, she's also found time to star in new film Svengali alongside her boyfriend Jonny Owen.

The film follows Dixie - a postman from a small town in Wales whose only dream is to become the manager of a successful band and make his name as 2014's answer to Alan McGee. So, armed with a YouTube URL to a video of a band he likes, the phone number of old pal 'Horsey' and girlfriend Michelle (Vicky) in tow, he heads down to the Big Smoke with quaint small-town notions of making it big in the music industry.

The film is charming. Dixie's unwavering optimism manages to charm even the most hardened of London music executives and it even features real life cameos from Carl Barat, Alan McGee and Huw Stephens.

Since playing Jonny's girlfriend on screen - Vicky and Jonny are now together in real life (altogether now, 'AAAAAW') but she didn't need much persuading to get involved in the first place. 'He heard me on the Radio with Edith Bowman and I’m quite a chirpy, happy person so he thought about me for the part of Shell. Then we met up, had a chat...' 'I bought her a sausage cob,' interupts Jonny... 'Ha yes,' conitnues Vicki 'And that's all I wanted!'

On the subject of This In England '90, she can't say much, 'I can say that we’ve done a bit of a rehearsal just before Chirstmas – we pulled in some of the main characters and tried to think about where our characters had been for the past few years. I don’t know anything – the thing with Shane is that he could come in here now and tell you the plot but actually there’s a very good chance it’ll change. We’re hoping to start filming towards the end of the year. It’s set in 1990 so we know we’re going to involve the Hacienda, the rave scene, the World Cup and Combo will be out. – I think Shane’s confirmed that so I think I’m allowed to say it!' We for one, can't wait.
