We'd never pegged Vince Vaughn or Colin Farrell as proper serious actors, but then again, there was a time Matthew McConaughey was all silly, wasn't there?

Just as the weather gets brighter and we begin to feel the tug of sunshine and boozing outdoors and strolling around in little more than a t-shirt and summer coat pulling us away from the TV, TV goes and clutches us back to its heart, like a needy kitten in one of those GIFs we so love.

This time it’s True Detective. Gone are Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, here for the second series are Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch. Yes, we know they don’t exactly strike you as the serious actory types needed to carry off the dark, slow-paced drama of corrupt detectives and tortured souls, those incredible knife-edge action sequences and a whole bunch of 'who the fuck dunnit?'. But let’s remember that Matthew McConaughey hasn’t exactly been Mr Big Time Serious Actor all his life. This was the star of *How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. *Remember that?

Oh, and the new series has a big-shot actress in, too. Rachel McAdams is in it, and hopefully she'll get a little more screeen time than Alexandra Daddario from the first series, whose role was basically 'boobs.'
