BBC's most cut-throat, psychologically torturous reality gameshow, The Traitors, offers the winner (or winners) a cash prize of £120,000. But many don't know the one rule that could see its contestants lose 'hundreds of thousands of pounds'.
Jaz Singh, iconic Faithful from series two, has dished up some tantalising details of what it's really like to go on the show, including the strict rules for contestants. It turns out that participants have to sign a NDA before even appearing on TV.
Jaz became a fan-favourite for consistently wading through the deception and lies to accurately pinpoint. He told The Sun: 'You have to get a ton of stuff prepared, how you're going to deliver this information to various family members to keep this a secret, because you're under an NDA, and they will sue you for hundreds of thousands of pounds of TV damages if this gets leaked.'
He also shared how in-depth the vetting process is, adding, 'They want to do a psychoanalysis on you inside and out, so they know you before even speaking to you, so they know what questions to present.'
He likened the experience to a 'game before the game', saying the application process took him roughly two hours and he was asked 'what’s your biggest fear?' and 'what’s your biggest lie?'. 'I went through a hundred Zooms, a hundred auditions,' he added.
Season three of the series has already felt more dramatic than ever, with several twists and turns to keep viewers and contestants on their toes. In the first episode, three people had to put themselves forward to potentially go home or else the group would have to forfeit a huge amount of money. In the latest episode, presenter Claudia Winkleman teased a game-changing twist.
She said: ‘One of you will win an extraordinary power that could turn the entire game on its head.’
As the final draws even closer, we learnt what many of the contestants would do with the winnings. Both Charlotte and Leanne shared that the money would go towards IVF, as they had both struggled with pregnancy. Alexander said that he planned to donate to a charity that helped his parents raise his late younger brother who had special needs and died.
The gameshow first arrived in the UK in November 2022 and quickly became a word of mouth success. By the time the second season arrived in January 2024, it was winning audiences of more than five million. Now in its third season, The Traitors is still considered appointment television.
On Wednesday, the game will become even more dramatic, as it enters its final quarter before concluding on Friday, 24 January.
