Anna Sorokin, the convicted con artist who went by the name Anna Delvey, is reportedly working on her next act: a reality TV series. However, the internet is divided on the concept.
The series titled 'Delvey's Dinner Club,' will see Anna host luxurious dinner parties with celebrity guests and moguls from the comfort of her Manhattan apartment - whilst on house arrest. Sorokin will reportedly discuss topics such as her criminal past, her reputation as a con artist and plans for the future.
The 'Soho grifter' and inspiration behind Netflix's Inventing Anna, is currently under house arrest after overstaying her visa. Anna was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) detention last October, and she already completed her sentence for her 2019 conviction for attempted grand larceny.
However, because Anna is on house arrest, the internet is divided on whether a reality series is morally right and what message it sends. For some, this is glorifying bad behaviour whilst the other side are excited to divulge on the juicy conversations that will most likely air.
Fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions. One comment reads, 'I know we're not supposed to glorify this type of behaviour but I will be seated for every episode.' Whilst another said, 'The entertainment industry is hilarious. I follow like 20 comics who are talented enough to be given a real opportunity to create something but nah, let's go with the scammer.'
One comment that struck many was, 'Her posing with the ankle monitor is kind of iconic.' However, this commentary isn't anything new. Let's cast our minds back to 2007. Lindsay Lohan was put on probation and from then on she was sporting an ankle monitor. The world hailed the decorated monitor as iconic and the fashion world even created items with her as inspiration. In Chanel's SS07 collection, they reportedly created miniature quilted ankle-bags inspired by Lindsay. Now, history has repeated itself as Anna poses on the cover of ES magazine and features on Vouge's The Run Through video sporting her monitor.
'There’s nothing like the experience of bringing together a curated group of friends to share life stories and enjoy a great culinary experience,' Sorokin said in press release for the series. 'I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Wheelhouse and Butternut to bring my vision to a wider audience and share a glimpse of the real Anna Delvey.'
The internet remains firmly divided on whether this is a must watch event, or glorification of a fraudster. Anna's end goal was to become rich and famous. We guess she's truly living the life she always wanted...
