Anticipation is building for new movie The Housemaid, thanks to some sneak glimpses teasing its star-studded cast. A series of clips, which dropped on The Housemaid TikTok account this week, have shared some of the twists and turns we can expect from the new psychological thriller, which hits cinemas in December.

In the first clip, we see Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester, a wealthy suburban mum, opening the door to her mansion to greet her new maid, played by Sydney Sweeney. In the chilling teaser, she says 'please call me Nina.'

In a second teaser, we see inside the big house, where Seyfried says: 'I don’t know what I’d do without you.' Sweeney replies 'I do not want to go back'. Another video shows Seyfried saying, 'I want you to feel safe here.'

The Lionsgate film was announced last year. Written by Rebecca Sonnenshine and directed by Paul Feig, The Housemaid will retell the story of Freida McFadden's best-selling book, which hit the shelves in 2022. It was reportedly the best-selling book of the year on Amazon's UK platform in 2024, meaning fans are counting down the days until the film hits our screens....

What is The Housemaid about?

The Housemaid film is based off the best-selling novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. The book follows a maid called Millie, who is hired by a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew. From the outside, it looks like Nina and Andrew have the perfect life - but as Millie's employment continues, dark, sinister secrets begin to surface.

Erin Westerman, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president, said: 'Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina — they’re both mysterious, nuanced and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away. We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel, and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.'

Who is in The Housemaid cast?

Much of the excitement around The Housemaid is around its star-studded cast. Read on to see who will be on our screens...

Speaking about her character at CinemaCon during Liongate's presentation, Sweeney said 'I love when there’s so many unexpected twists and turns,' adding that she appreciates 'messy' characters.

Also speaking at CinemaCon, Seyfried said: 'I got to go to places that I never expected to go to. We reached places that I’ve never been able to as an actor... we created some wacky s**t... the stuff that happened when the cameras were rolling was bananas.'
