If you have a reality-shaped hole in your life since Love Island left our screens, then The Circle might help to fill that void. Back tonight, the Channel 4 show is here for it’s second series, with Emma Willis taking on presenting duties (replacing Maya Jama and Alice Levine).

If you have no idea what the show’s all about, then don’t worry. We’ll explain it for you.

What is The Circle about?

So, The Circle is a bit different to most reality shows - as the contestants never actually meet. They all live together, in the same block of flats, yet they can only communicate through social media (aka The Circle).

The aim of the game is to become as popular as possible and pocketing the £75,000 cash prize. Players can decide whether to be themselves or somebody completely different. Players will rate one another, meaning the most unpopular can be blocked or eliminated from the show.

Last year Alex Hobern was crowned the winner. But he wasn't playing himself. Alex managed to convince the other players, while using pictures of his girlfriend, that he was a woman called Kate.

The show has previously been for us normies, not celebrities, but you might be surprised to know that Zoe Ball and Norman Cook’s son Woody is one of the contestants. This year there’s going to be an added twist, as it’s been revealed that Richard Madeley (of Richard and Judy fame) is going to be on the show, with the public controlling his profile.

When is The Circle on TV?

It starts tonight on Channel Four{ =nofollow}, right after the Great British Bake Off, at 9.15pm.

It will then be on every night of the week (except Saturdays) at 10pm. There is also another new twist this year, as there will be a live episode on Fridays.
