Does your family drive you up the wall sometimes? Of course they do. However much we love our relatives - our parents, our siblings - there will always be times when we wish they would disappear. But at times like those, when you're tearing your hair out because your mum made a snide comment or because your brother is behaving like a buffoon, we have some advice for you. Take a breath. Leave the room. And be grateful for the fact that, at the very least, you're not a Roy.
You've seen Succession, right? The US comedy-drama's depiction of the Roy dynasty, led by the horrendously, bombastically cruel family patriarch Logan Roy, has had us glued to our screens ever since it debuted in 2018. Since the second season ended, we have been left gasping for more as the coronavirus pandemic stalled production of a follow up. But now, the road toward its triumphant return has been paved at last. A new trailer has been released, a vague return date is in the schedule, and the entire Roy clan look ready to fight.
Here's what you need to know. Gird your loins, folks.
Is there a trailer for Succession Season 3?
There is indeed, and it's riveting. We've already watched it about ten times. Even the trademark music gave us chills.
At the moment, it's pretty vague on new plot points, but what's clear is that the show's focus - a biting satire on the familial wranglings of an international media company - remains, and there is conflict aplenty. You didn't think the Roys were going to resolve their many issues with a hug and a kiss on the cheek, did you?
What is also clear from the trailer is that there will be major implications after Kendall, played by Jeremy Strong, explosively claimed that dear old dad Logan Roy - Brian Cox, amazing - was aware of, and therefore potentially legally culpable for, historic cases of criminal activity at the company. Logan is, shall we say, not thrilled at this public revelation - there are fisticuffs - and then we get more clues as to what to expect from the season: alliances shifting - like that of Shiv, who seems to be telling Kendall that she will back him, over their father, if she is given company control. Does Kendall have the grit to truly ascend? The trailer suggests... no. But you never know.
And our favourite moment? As always, it comes from Shiv. Sarah Snook - aka the most stylish woman in television - spits onto a book. Why? Is she really not enjoying the new Sally Rooney? Or does a new family biography threaten to expose new secrets? We're gripped.
Is there a UK release date for Succession Season 3?
So, we knew that we could expect a return in 2021, despite covid delays, because HBO's Casey Bloys told Deadline that it would return in Q4 (aka, for those not familiar with TV speak, the fourth quarter of the year). That has now been confirmed: we have an October 2021 release date. Yes, it's still vague, but it's good enough for us.
Who is joining the cast for Succession Season 3?
Is it any surprise that major Hollywood talent has come knocking? Adrien Brody, the Oscar-winning star of The Pianist, is joining the cast, as is Swedish Big Little Lies star Alexander Skarsgård. Our favourites will also be joined by Sanaa Lathan, K-pop star Jihae Kim and Linda Emond.
Can you wait? We can't wait. We're actively wishing away the summer.
Succession Season 3 returns to Sky Atlantic and NOW this Autumn. Seasons 1-2 are available to catch up now on Sky On-Demand and NOW.
