Strictly Come Dancingfinalists AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington are set to return to the show in 2022 after they missed out on last weekends final. AJ and partner Kai were fan favourites throughout this series of Strictly. Viewers loved the pair’s chemistry and their high-energy dance routines. After being hailed as the ‘diverse series ever’, fans were excited to see her battle for the glitter ball trophy in the grand finale.
Unfortunately, this was not to be as AJ suffered a torn ligament in her right ankle just days before the the final. This meant they had to withdraw from the competitionand were forced to take third place. Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Perniceand John Whaite and Johannes Radebe were left to battle for the crown. Rose and Giovanni eventually came out on top and were named the champions of this series.
While AJ gracefully sat on the side-lines cheering the other finalists on – for many fans it’s just not enough. AJ and Kai still have three dances they were unable to perform at the Strictly ballroom. However, there may be a silver lining in all this, as The Sun have reported AJ might get one final chance to dance.
An insider told The Sun, ‘The winners of the show returns to perform again for one dance when the series starts up again and it’s been suggested AJ could also be allowed to come back for one last turn on the dance floor.’
At the time of of her injury The BBC released a statement saying, 'Sadly due to injury AJ and Kai have had to withdraw from #Strictly and won’t compete in tomorrow’s final.
'We want to thank them for 13 incredible weeks on the show and the pure joy they brought to the dance floor every week.'
AJ added, ‘Learning to dance over the last 13 weeks has been an incredible honour and to do it alongside someone as special, patient and devoted as Kai is something I'll treasure forever.’
Boxer Nicola Adams and pro Katya Jones returned to dance this year after being forced to quit due to catching Covid last year.
This might not be the last we see of AJ and Kai on the dancefloor…
