A new series in the Selling Sunset franchise has landed on Netflix, and it's jumped to the top 10 in its first week. Selling The City introduces us to a new group of glamorous real estate agents keen to show their billionaire clients around New York's hottest properties.
Just like its LA, Tampa and Orange County counterparts, the spin-off features a group of ambitious women (and two men) hoping to make as much commission as possible. This time, they are working for the Douglas Elliman brokerage, under the management of Eleanora Srugo.
One such agent is Jade Chan, who threatened legal action against Netflix in the season one finale. Who is she? And did she really mean it? Here's all you need to know.
Who is Jade Chan?
Jade was born in Manhattan, raised in Atlanta and currently lives in the New York neighbourhood of Chelsea. She said, 'I’ve lived here for 10 years. It’s a gym class mecca, and I’m walking distance from my favorites: F45, Soul Cycle, Solidcore, and Modo Yoga!'
Jade has been working at the brokerage since 2013, when she started on the administrative side. She is now one of the agency's top sellers and holds the title of director of sales.
Before she joined Douglas Elliman, she was a public relations specialist working the NBA All-Star Weekend, Superbowl, and the FBR Golf Tournament.
How old is Jade Chan?
Jade is 38 years old.
What is Jade Chan's role on Selling The City?
As director of sales, Jade holds an important role at Douglas Elliman. On the show, she found herself at the centre of some heated onscreen drama with fellow agent Abi.
At the end of the season, Abi wanted to address Jade's comments about some of the other agents. She tried to do so discreetly at the bar at a birthday party, but Jade refused. Abi then started talking out loud saying she had heard the things Jade had said about her and their colleagues and wanted to moved forward in a 'positive manner'.
Jade then tried to walk off set and block the camera from filming her. At this point, Abi accused Jade of being a 'different person off camera', which Jade denied. Jade then said she thought Abi looked older than she was.
Abi then asked Jade if she had said, 'All I know is you looked me in the eye and said, "I'm hanging out with Taylor. I'm putting my trust in you not to tell Eleonora this. I don't want her up my ass."' Jade then left the room saying, 'If any of this f***ing airs, I'll sue every single one of your asses.'
She then said, 'This is f***ing bulls***' to the production crew. 'This camera better get out of my f***ing face. I am not mic’d. I am done. I am not mic’d. F*** you, Netflix. F*** Netflix. F*** everybody.' Quite the ending...
Is Jade Chan suing Netflix?
No, after all that Jade is not pursuing a lawsuit against Netflix. In an interview with _US Weekl_y, Jade said, 'No, I am not taking legal action. I [actually want to] thank the producers for their beautiful way of still telling that story and still showcasing the spiciness that was there in that heated moment.'
She claimed there was more to the scene, and the argument, that wasn't shown. 'They were very respectful in knowing what was right and wrong in regards to [what to include], because there was much more to that scene than just the one minute that is shown. So I appreciate and respect them for that matter.
'That’s really where those comments from me were coming from. Because there were below-the-belt things said from both sides — from Abigail [Godfrey] and myself — that I would never want to be shown across the entire world.'
Is Jade Chan in a relationship?
No, from Jade's social media and the show it does not seem as though she is currently in a relationship.
What is Jade Chan's net worth?
Jade Chan's net worth is estimated to be around $12 million (£9.6 million), according to The Cinemaholic.
