Maybe they should rename the Netflix series Nobody Wants This to Everybody Wants This because after the romantic comedy hit the streaming platform on 26 September, viewers have been clamouring for a second season. Luckily, the news has finally been confirmed.
The first season – which hit 10.3 million views within just four days - saw agnostic sex podcaster Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, and newly single rabbi Noah, played by Adam Brody, fall in love despite the circumstances surrounding their relationship. The final episode saw the pair split briefly after the pressure became too much, but Joanne and Noah were soon back together.
Therefore fans agree that Nobody Wants This is primed for a second season. Joanne and Noah have decided to try and make things work, but what will that look like?
Given that Nobody Wants This is inspired by creator, writer and executive producer Erin Foster's own experience converting to Reform Judaism to marry Simon Tikhman, there’s plenty of story left to tell. Indeed Erin has shared that 'conversations have definitely started to happen about a potential season two'. 'I think if there is a season two, I would want to just pick up where we leave off and continue to take it slow, because I don’t want us to get too far ahead of ourselves,' she said. 'I mean, I want my show to be on the air as long as possible!’
Here’s everything we know about Nobody Wants This season two...
Has Nobody Wants This been renewed for a second season?
Yes! Netflix has confirmed that Nobody Wants This is returning for season two. Taking over as showrunners are sitcom royalty, Girls' Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan. The pair will also executive produce alongside Erin, while Nora Silver (Deli Boys, Welcome to Chippendales, Single Drunk Female) is also on board as an executive producer.
The show's creator Erin said, 'I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls... Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!'
When will Nobody Wants This season 2 be released?
While an official release date is TBC, as Netflix only confirmed that Nobody Wants This had been renewed for a second season this month, we expect the wait won't be too long. After all, the first season was released just six months after the show wrapped filming; with the show being so popular, they might try and turn around a new set of episodes pretty quickly.
Who is in the Nobody Wants This season two cast?
While the cast of Nobody Wants This season two is yet to be announced, it would basically be impossible for the show to return without Kristen and Adam in their lead roles (especially with that cliffhanger ending). Erin has said that ‘Kristen and Adam would love to do a season two’ and the pair have spoken about what they personally think that would look like. So we've got our cast back too.
Adam Brody shared, ‘It’s such an open-ended ending. I think that we get the impression that they’re going to try to make it work and be together. And so what that looks like? I don’t think they know.’
For her part, Kristen Bell has said, ‘The reason you watch a show is to decide will they or won’t they. I’m happy with the beautiful way this particular story ended, and I feel like there is so much real estate to play with when you are writing about the challenges of navigating different outlooks on life and meddling family members and settling down and compromising and lust and love and all those things. And if I had an answer for you, we would not be able to do a second season.’
What can we expect in Season 2 of Nobody Wants This?
At the end of season one, Noah chose Joanne over his role as a rabbi so it’s likely that we’ll see the fallout of his decision – will he quit his job or continue to try and juggle both?
We also saw Esther (Jackie Tohn) discovering her husband Sasha’s (Timothy Simons) not-quite-affair-but-I-wouldn’t-be-happy-if-my-husband-did-that relationship with Morgan (Justine Lupe) and so maybe she’ll team up with Noah’s mother Bina (Tovah Feldshuh) to help split the pair up in order to protect her family from the blonde bombshell sisters.
Is there a Nobody Wants This season 2 trailer?
While there isn't an official trailer for season two, Netflix did share an announcement video sharing the news that the show would be returning. You can watch it below...
Is Nobody Wants This a true story?
Yes and no. Showrunner Erin Foster took inspiration from her own experience of converting to Judaism in order to marry husband Simon Tikhman. While Simon wasn't particularly religious – and definitely wasn't a rabbi, like Noah is in the show – he'd told her he wanted to marry someone Jewish and not a 'shiksa' (AKA a non-Jewish girl). Simon's parents were Jewish immigrants who fled the Soviet Union and settled in San Francisco, with Simon promising them he would continue the Jewish lineage so as to not 'disappoint' them.
What channel is Nobody Wants This on?
Nobody Wants This is exclusively available to stream on Netflix.
