The Release Date For Sally Rooney’s Normal People Is Finally Here

Sally Rooney{ =nofollow}’s Normal People is being adapted into a TV show. Suffice to say, we can’t wait. And now, finally, we know when it's going to be released. Exciting! All 12 episodes will be hitting iPlayer on April 26. It will then air on Hulu on April 29.

The new trailer follows the release of a set of photos from the BBC last year, showing Marianne and Connell in character, with one of her in her school uniform, and another of him playing football. In the book, the pair get together while they are at school - despite their very different backgrounds - and they try to keep their romance under wraps. But when they move to university, the entire dynamic changes.

Marianne is being portrayed by Daisy Edgar-Jones from Cold Feet and War Of The Worlds, while Paul Mescal will take on the role of Connell. Wondering why you’ve never heard of Mescal? That’s because it’s his first television role. (Which is very impressive, tbh.)

‘Normal People tracks the tender but complicated relationship of Marianne and Connell from the end of their school days in a small-town west of Ireland to their undergraduate years at Trinity College,’ the BBC describes the series. ‘At school, he’s well-liked and popular, while she’s lonely, proud and intimidating.

‘But when Connell comes to pick up his mother from her cleaning job at Marianne’s house, a strange and indelible connection grows between the two teenagers - one they are determined to conceal. A year later, they’re both studying in Dublin and Marianne has found her feet in a new social world but Connell hangs at the side lines, shy and uncertain.’

The twelve part series was adapted by original author Sally Rooney alongside writers Alice Birch and Mark O’Rowe.
