If you vowed that this would be the year you’d finally run that 10k for charity, we’ve got the solution: raise money for a great cause without the months of gruelling training.

On Saturday 11 October at 7:30pm, Stand Up To Cancer is organising a nationwide March On Cancer. On one epic night, 15 cities across the UK will unite with tens of thousands of people taking part.

There’s no set distance, but each march will be a manageable walk of around 2-3 miles, lasting about 45 minutes. You could spend 45 minutes watching Made In Chelsea, but I think we all know what’s going to come out top in the karma rankings.

This is a strictly walking-only event, with no running allowed, so you don’t have to worry about getting competitive or get bogged down with personal bests.

As this isn’t a race, you’ll be able to take in some entertainment while you walk. As well as live music from choirs and samba bands, there will also be cancer survivors sharing their stories with you as you march. And a chance for you to find out about the people involved behind the scenes researching new cancer treatments and tests – and refusing to rest until they’ve beaten all 200 types of cancer.

It costs £5 to enter, which along with any money you raise, will go straight into new treatments and tests for cancer patients, saving more lives more quickly.

Cities taking part include: Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Chester, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Southampton. You can find out more about the event here.

So, you can raise money for new cancer treatments, you don’t have to run and it’s only a fiver. No excuses: get marching!
