Some good news for Bridgerton fans on a Monday: Regé-Jean Page might be returning to your favourite Regency drama. Of course, fans of the show won’t need to be reminded that, while Regé was the lead in the first series alongside Phoebe Dynevor, he mysteriously disappeared from season two… Even though his character, the Duke of Hastings, was in the second book.
There were differing reports at the time, which suggested that either Regé refused a part in the second series due to money or that he fell out with producers. But, whatever the reason for his absence, The Sun are claiming that he could be coming back for the third season, which will cover the love life of secret writer Penelope Featherington (played by the wonderful Nicola Coughlan).
‘Regé-Jean was always very open about his intention to quit the show after the first season and to move on to other projects,’ a source told the paper. ‘But recently there has been a dialogue between him and the show’s bosses. Nothing has been formally agreed yet, but watch this space.’ It’s believed filming for this series will begin in the coming months - so hopefully we’ll have more word whether Regé has signed on for season three soon.
Since appearing in the first series, with his spoon, Regé has become a worldwide name. Later this year he’s set to star in Netflix spy movie The Gray Man, alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling. And next year, he’s set to feature in fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
And more excitingly, until last week, he was leading the bookies’ odds to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond. However, he’s just been taken over by Idris Elba, who has also been rumoured to play the role for years. When he was asked about the rumours, Regé told The Mirror: ‘I'm flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed. Nothing more – or less – than that.' Well, whether or not Rege is going to become the most famous agent in the world, hopefully we can at least see him back on Bridgerton soon, right?!
