With Covid lockdown restrictions changing daily and the nights drawing in, never have we needed true TV escapism more. If you haven't started Ryan Murphy's new Netflix show Ratched yet, this is just the visual treat you need. A One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest prequel, Ratched is a dark and twisted story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched (Sarah Paulson), with all the gore and glamour synonymous with Murphy's work. Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but beneath Mildred’s stylish exterior lies a growing darkness that has long been smouldering within.

With an all-star cast that also includes Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon and Sophie Okonedo and the costume directors behind Glee, Pose and American Horror Story, this is the must-see TV show of the moment. And we cannot get enough of the looks. Here are just some of our favourites...

'Sharon Stone is a trained hairdresser' says Head of Hair, Chris Clark. 'So Sharon had a lot of influence into her design, which was really fun. The lavishness of that character and the costumes she wore, played a huge part in the look that we developed for Sharon. There was a little bit of a 30s look with a little bit of an early 40s look. It kept her out of the world in a weird way and in her own sphere.

Guzzi says that the wardrobe team had an enormous box that consisted solely of nurse dress prototypes. 'Then that's just one part of it because then when they go outside they need a cape and a hat.' Costume designer Lou Eyrich says that in the beginning of the design process 'it was all about the hospital's inhabitants. Everything had to be custom made, but it was all about the perfect shade of green and then different tonal degrees off of that so that everybody wasn't in the same shade.'
