While we are #notmad at Frozen and its lovely tale of two princess sisters, we actually would like, at some point, to watch an animated female lead that’s not swirling around in ballgowns or looking for her Prince Charming. Something real and a bit more relatable would be nice. And it’s about to happen.

Pixar’s next big movie, Inside Out, is about a girl named Riley who’s led by a series of emotions, including joy, anger, sadness, disgust and fear – all voiced by a different Hollywood actor. It follows her emotional trajectory as she moves from her happy and simple childhood to hormonal pre-teen – which will totally help girls everywhere navigate the often confusing transition from youngster to teenager.

‘The whole story sparked from watching my daughter grow up,’ director Pete Docter told Vulture. ‘Psychologists told us there is no one more emotionally attuned than a 12-16-year-old girl. It’s not like I set out to make a girl-power movie. But I think this story and the subject matter really speaks to that.’

We are already preparing to bawl our eyes out with the sheer emotional intensity this thing promises.
