The Best Reactions To The TV Adaptation Of Normal People

After months of anticipation, the adaptation of Sally Rooney{ =nofollow}’s Normal People dropped on iPlayer yesterday. And with lockdown meaning we literally have all the time in the world to binge a series, it could not have come at a better time.

In case you haven’t read the book - we suggest you do - or you haven’t watched the show yet - again, we suggest you do, asap - Normal People follows the love story between Marianne and Connell{ =nofollow}. At school, Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is a quiet loner while Connell (Paul Mescal) is popular - until those roles reverse when they move to university in Dublin.

And, with five star reviews across the board, it did not disappoint critics. The Independent called it ‘pitch-perfect’, The Guardian said it was a ‘small screen triumph’, meanwhile the Rolling Stone hailed it ‘excellent’. Predictably, the social media reactions weren’t that different, either - with people expressing their joy that the TV series lived up to expectations. (Although there were a lot more people complaining that a show containing so much sex was released when we're all social distancing...)
