If there's one thing that makes us feel really old, it's being reminded that the child actors who appeared in Friends are now actual adults. We can barely watch Cole Sprouse in Riverdale without getting flashbacks to when he played sweet little Ben Geller in the hit US sitcom. So we were more than a little spaced out when the actress who played Emma - Ross and Rachel's baby - popped up on social media to remind us that she's no longer a baby.
As 2019 became 2020, social media users posted a Friends throwback, to an episode in Season 10 entitled The One With The Cake. Focused on Emma's first birthday party, the episode centres around the various setbacks to the celebrations. You may recall that the bakery, for example, accidentally makes a crude birthday cake in the shape of a certain appendage. But it's Emma's refusal to wake up that really ruins things, and in one scene Chandler - speaking to a video camera - fumes as the delay rules out a weekend away with Monica. 'Hi Emma. It's the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?'
Monica adds. 'We're Aunt Monica and Uncle Chandler, by the way - you may not recognise us because we haven't spoken to your parents in 17 years.'
The screen grab was shared widely, but it was Noelle Sheldon - one of the two girls who played Emma - who had the best response.
'Just woke up from the best nap of all time, happy 2020!' the 17-year-old wrote alongside an image of her in Central Perk. '(ft. my poorly done Photoshop) Hope everyone has an excellent year full of family, friends, and laughter!'
The social media explosion follows last year's news that a Friends reunion is in the works. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the six original cast members - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer - were set for a special event to make the programme's 25th anniversary.
Could we be any more excited?
