Few television shows from the 90s and 00s were anywhere near as impressive as Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I know – heavy statement to make. But between the insane cameo lineup and Salem, retrospectively the funniest feline to ever hit our screens, there was little it could do wrong. It made its mark among a relatively long list of programmes about witches, and I like to think we were all pretty happy with where it sat.
That said, word on the street is that Sabrina could be making a return to TV in the not so distant future. The catch is that it'll be in a way that’ll take everything you think you know about our favourite teenage witch, her kooky aunts and sassy cat companion, and rip it to teeny tiny shreds. Things are about to get dark, you guys. Really fucking dark.

Brought to you by the masterminds who gave us Netflix’ Riverdale, the new one-hour drama about Sabrina is in development for next year, reports Variety. It’ll be based on the comic book series ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ (that exists in the same universe as the Riverdale story does, btw) and instead of the jolly, happy go lucky story of a girl who starts each episode trying on various preppy outfits in front of the mirror, this new series will be a much darker story with more of a focus on horror and the occult. Insane, right? Something tells me the spontaneous outfit changes at the whip of a finger won't play quite the same significance...
Apparently, the series is described as being along the same lines as shit the bed material like The Exorcist and *Rosemary’s Baby. *You know, the stuff your mum told you not to watch before bed, if at all? The stuff that gave you nightmares for months. The stuff that Melissa Joan Hart's Sabrina Spellman definitely had nothing to do with. And while we're really excited to see how it all takes shape (and which Riverdale characters cross over into Sabrina's territory) we’re already a little bit ( a lot) terrified. I think it safe to assume that Britney Spears won’t be making a guest appearance in this one.
