Keeping up with Peak TV can be an unrelentingly grim endeavour. Sitting through prestigious dramas like The Handmaid's Tale has become unbearable for all but those with the strongest of constitutions, while factual programming is now dominated by stories of murder, abductions and sexual violence (more often that not against women). So imagine how relieved we were to learn that Netflix’s latest must-watch documentary isn’t yet another harrowing true crime investigation. Instead, it’s something that sounds rather lovely indeed: a six part series about dogs, called Dogs.
According to the streaming service, Dogs is ‘an elegant, engaging and cinematic verite documentary series celebrating the deep emotional bonds between people and their beloved four-legged best friends.’ We're already crying just thinking about it.

Each episode will track an incredible story from a different country, including Syria, Japan, Costa Rica, Italy and the US, proving that ‘the unconditional love one feels for their dog is a beautiful universal truth.’ As for the show’s pedigree (sorry, it had to be done) these installments will each be helmed by a critically acclaimed, award-winning director, and the series promises to take us 'on an inspirational journey exploring the remarkable, perhaps even magical qualities that have given these animals such a special place in all of our hearts.'
Sold? All six episodes of Dogs will be landing on Netflix on 16th November, in just over two weeks time. Not sold? Just imagine what a wonderful salve this show will be to your inevitable pre-festive hangovers in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Look, it's either Dogs or the Christmas Prince sequel. It's looking a lot better now, isn't it?
