Everything That Happened In The Final Episode Of The Missing

The Missing season two is over and I’m not really sure how to feel about that. The eight-part BBC thriller starring Keeley Hawes and David Morrissey has certainly been the talk of TV for the past eight weeks, and last night’s finale was no exception. While some feel it left so many answered questions wide open, others paid tribute to the man of the show - Julien Baptise we’re looking at you. Here’s everything we know about last night’s epic showdown.

What happened in the end of The Missing season two?

Well if you willingly want to know spoilers, the case was solved. Who solved it? Like you need to ask, Julien Baptiste, of bloody course. After weeks of investigating, and being ignored by the police and army, Julien took Gemma Webster to Adam Gettrick’s house where they discovered the basement in which Alice Webster and Sophie Giroux were once held. They managed to convince Sam that Adam was the man behind the kidnappings, and found evidence of their movement to Switzerland. Around about the same time Eve Stone discovered the same thing.

But how did we end up here, what happened back in Iraq?

The Missing series has lived between flashbacks and the present day, and this episode was no different. We learn that when Sophie Giroux fell ill in 2014, Adam called upon Adrian Stone and Henry Reed to help – Henry’s a medic, remember. Henry is less than willing to take part in the kidnap, but Adrian goes ahead with it as Adam has a recording of them admitting to everything that happened in Iraq. We then learn how Henry died, when trying to contact the police secretly, Adam shoots him in his own home and makes it appear like suicide.

Did Adam Gettrick really kidnap all three girls?

Remember the third girl Jorn Lenhart discovered in the rollercoaster photograph? Lena Garber? It turns out Adam did kidnap her too, but she wasn’t a ‘good girl,’ and never stopped talking. He killed her right before Sophie was let out so she could pretend to be Alice. It also hints that there were more girls involved, when Baptiste is interrogating Adam in the police interview room.

So, Alice Webster has been found?

YES YES YES. When Gemma, Sam and Julien make their way to Switzerland (I’m sorry but when will people learn to not go places without police backup? Come on guys, its 2016), they sit in the exact same café Sophie sat in when a waiter hit on her. He just ‘happens’ to clock Julien looking at a picture of Sophie on his phone, and told them where she headed – into the woods where Adam is. They obviously go off into the woods, Adam hears them coming and shoots Sam (WAH).

But Evie has already sent the army to assist and they capture Adam and Alice is found. We know Sam has been shot at this point, but he sees his daughter and if you didn’t cry you need to get in the sea.

But did Sam Webster survive?!

He dies. Sorry pals. It’s very emotional.

What happened to Eve and Adrian Stone?

I’m a little hazy on this one. The final alludes to the idea that Adrian made up having dementia - and we get the sense that Eve thinks this in the final scene too when asked by the doctor if he would be going back to the old people’s home. Perhaps this will be a focus on season three? Eve does tell Gemma that she is keeping Sam’s baby, though, and that it’s a girl.

Please tell us Julien is OK?

We don’t know ahhhhhh. He goes into his operation in the final scene and manages to count down to ‘tois’ (three if French isn’t your thing) before the scene cuts out. The doctors do tell him he's 'made of the strong stuff,' right before he goes under though, this gives me hope.

Will there be a season three of The Missing?

Nothing is confirmed yet but this person in Twitter is onto something.

Who is the hero of the show?

JULIEN. Let’s all just take a moment to appreciate the man of the moment. Hero, all round fantastic human being. Julien Baptiste. Here's to you.
