Friendship, falling out and a formidable female cast – no wonder Mary Queen of Scots is attracting serious Awards Season buzz. The film is released on 18 January, but Grazia readers can see it first, for free, at a special preview on 10 January.
Based around the letters that Mary (played by Saoirse Ronan) composed to her cousin Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie), the movie portrays the relationship between these two powerful women in a world ruled by men. It’s a cautionary tale of power play and, ultimately, sisterhood gone wrong – and with glowing reviews, promises to be a compelling drama.
To tie in with the film – and as a call to action for a greater show of sorority than Mary and Elizabeth ultimately displayed – the charity Women for Women Internationalis launching the #DearSister campaign. The campaign encourages women to write letters, or post pictures or videos, of love and thanks on social media championing positive female relationships. So to show gratitude to your fellow sisters, start scribbling your messages now and sharing with the hashtags #DearSister #MaryQueenOfScots
