Love Island has been officially over for approximately four days now, and while yes – we miss it, and yes – we’ve been stalking the Instagram pages of every single contestant until the late hours of the morning, we would like to call BS on the claim that this new Make or Break show is the new Love Island.
Set to air on Channel 5, Make or Break features eight troubled couples trying to salvage what relationship they have left. Said eight couples will be sent packing to Mexico, cool. While there they will be tested along with the other couples to see if their relationship can last. It will run for two weeks, and starts on August 7th.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love reality TV, call me basic but Love Island was life. The way it’s set up, the people they throw in there, the whole ‘WILL LIV AND CHRIS WORK I DON’T KNOW HELP’ saga. But the whole reason it worked was because the couples went in, single.
Make or Break makes me feel stressed, it makes me feel anxious. It makes me feel like I’m watching a show about cheating that everyone knows will just end up in tears and tantrums. We know why we all got so obsessed with Love Island, because we’re all obsessed with this idyllic notion of romance and watching it unfold on TV makes for great entertainment. Make or Break will see the couples swap and complete trails – but surly it’s already painfully obvious that if they’re going on the show in the first place, they need to break up.
Supposedly the show will see them endure behavioural workshops, challenges and sex therapies to help them ‘become more well-rounded and enriched individuals.’ So, thoughts? Is this the new Love Island? We think not…but we’d appreciate thoughts on postcards please.
