On the previous two night’s Love Island, it was hard to keep up with the number of times the word ‘ick’ was thrown about – it was the star of the show.

Dumped islander Priya was very adamant that Brett had given her the ick and it spread around the villa like wildfire. As a viewer, I did feel bad for Brett as she told everyone else, she was not interested in him before she told him. Then, on last night's show, Mary joked that her tap dancing at the talent show might give Aaron 'the ick'.

What is it and how does one get the ‘ick’?

'The ick’ is something you might have experienced within a relationship without even realising it. You might not even be able to pinpoint when or why it happened but once it arrives- it’s an impossible feeling to shake.

'The'ick' is when you feel suddenly repulsed or put off by the person you’re dating. It is a very personal thing and not everybody’s 'ick’ is the same. It could be down to their mannerisms or something as simple as the way they laugh.

Now this doesn’t mean the person you’re dating is a bad person or you don’t like them as a human being. It just mean’s certain things they do irritate you and you probably wouldn’t work as a couple.

Now while Priya’s reasoning for getting 'the ick' are a very... let’s say unique (the lack of adventure within his choice of cheese was the real deal breaker) there are very real reasons why as women we get 'the ick’.

We wanted to see the reasons that have left you with 'the ick' and, not to exaggerate, but they are gold! It was a varied response, here are your 'ick' inciters:

1.Tight white jeans 2. He wore culottes 3. He took a plastic bag without paying for it 4. Speaking to me in baby voice like I’m an infant 5. Loud chewing 6. Mirror selfies 7. Breathing

Sometimes 'the ick' can be an instant feeling - after the first few dates you realise there is something they do that makes you cringe - or it can build up over time.

ABORT MISSION!

On previous series of Love Island, we have watched the gradual build-up of the ‘ick’ ruin relationships. I very clearly remember season 6 of love island when Leanne Amaning gathered Sophie and Jess around the fire pit to declare Mike had given her 'the ick'.

Can 'the ick' ever be reversed?

Once you get 'the ick’ is there ever really room to go back? Priya was adamant they would just be friends, but Brett was still holding out on hope. I hate to break it to you Brett, but once you get 'the ick’ it’s pretty much a done deal.

Personally, once you get 'the ick' it’s game over... There is no going back.

You can try to justify reasons why you should still see them – maybe they’re a nice person or have similar values as you. However, once you get that cringe feeling, 'the ick' starts to overshadow the positives and they will fade.

'The ick’ is a very intense feeling and it’s not a case of having doubts about someone. When you have doubt’s, you might be able to rekindle after talking things through. 'The ick’ is just something someone does that is irreversible – from then you will not be able to overlook that cringe feeling you have … sorry.

So, 'the ick' a very common thing amongst us women and when it happens – you just have to go with your gut.
