Out of all the Love Island contestants this year, it seems like Georgia - a bombshell dumped last week - had the worst luck. Producers presumably brought her in specifically for Hugo, who has been doing a good job at avoiding any kind of relationship which isn’t platonic - but 48 hours later, she was dumped at a shock recoupling.
During that recoupling, the most dramatic moment of the series happened when Hugo decided to call Toby out on how he had treated Chloe, as he decided to pretty much ignore her as soon as new bombshell Abigail arrived, who he later coupled up with.
Since Thursday’s drama, fans have been split as to whether Hugo did the right or the wrong thing. Whether he was just trying to stir things, or whether he genuinely felt outraged by the way Chloe was treated. But Georgia - who had to stand and watch the speech as her fate played out - has spoken out on the whole thing, saying she thinks the whole thing was ‘performative’ and that he wanted to be Chloe’s ‘knight in shining armour’.
‘It's honourable he's such a good friend to Chloe, I personally found it a little bit performative,’ she said, speaking on Aftersun. ‘I think it was more for her benefit than calling Toby out, he wanted to be her knight in shining armour and I think he did that.’
Ouch - she did say in her exit interview to never meet your heroes.
Finally, last night, Hugo addressed his feelings for Chloe, taking her for a chat to see if things could potentially develop. Unfortunately for Hugo, it didn’t go well, with Chloe telling him: ‘I just think what we've been through, and where I'm at, I just feel like for me it wouldn't be romantic, because of how close we are, and I wouldn't want to ruin that.’
Love Island continues at 9pm tonight...
