Answering all of our prayers, the first series of Love Is Blind UK was even better than we could have imagined - bringing drama and tears from the very first episode. Through out the show hosts Emma and Matt Willis consistently asked both us and the contestants, 'Is love truly blind?' and the answer to that question lies in whether or not the Love Is Blind UK couples are still together following the reunion on Monday 26 August.
Just like the series itself, the reunion episode of Love Is Blind UK was pretty dramatic and brought its fair share of surprises. Some good: Bobby and Jasmine talking about having children together. Some bad: Sabrina and Steve breaking up!
Say it isn't so! The very first couple to get engaged, Sabrina and Steven seemed one of the strongest couples from the start and despite some slight uncertainties eventually said 'I do'. However, less than a year into their marriage the pair have called it a day. So, what happened? Are Sabrina and Steven from Love Is Blind still together?
Sabrina and Steven - Not together
Devastatingly not! At first Sabrina and Steven seemed unbreakable and gave viewers the feeling that their relationship could survive anything because they seemed so aligned.
In Corfu, the pair couldn't have seemed happier. ‘Our first night together was so lovely and we may have had a physical connection,’ shared marketing and communications director Sabrina. 'I feel like our hearts and our minds are so aligned, and I can see us having this incredible life together.'
Her 38-year-old gym owner fiancé Steve agreed, saying, ‘I’m feeling really lucky, feeling really blessed. Your [love] language is so similar to mine.'
Doubts were cast by Steven’s friends as the couple prepared to marry, but in spite of those, the couple made it up the aisle and became husband and wife. 'We're jumping two feet in, but I think we're ready for the next chapter,' Sabrina said.
However, in the reunion episode last night the couple devastated fans when they announced that they had split less than a year into their marriage. And apparently it wasn't the long distance aspect of their relationship that split them up.
In the episode Sabrina shared that she had been incredibly torn on her wedding day admitting, 'My logical mind was being like, "It's not been enough time, you haven't experienced the outside world together. You don't know anything about where he lives, his work, [or] any kind of key things that really matter in a relationship."'
Speaking directly to Steven, she later added, 'I don't feel like you respected me'.
And what's going on with the rest of the couples from Love Is Blind UK?
Going back to the very beginning, we saw six couples get engaged, before heading to Corfu on their honeymoon and eventually moving in together in London in an attempt to strengthen their connections.
With the final episodes now on Netflix, we look at those who said 'I do' and those who said 'I don't'.
Catherine and Freddie - Not together
Cat and Freddie seemed like one of the strongest couples on Love Is Blind UK, despite Cat's initial connection with Ollie Sutherland. ‘I didn’t think I would find someone like you,’ Freddie Powell told her. They connected so well emotionally and in person that they had sex (twice) while in Greece.
However, the pair encountered issues once they returned to London. The 33-year-old funeral director's confession that he had cheated in the past didn't go down well with his fiancee Catherine Richards, who revealed that she has been on the receiving end of that before.
Money issues and their difference in lifestyles also caused strain between them. Freddie accused the 30-year-old dental nurse of being 'high-maintenance' and 'materialistic', and wanted her to sign a prenuptial agreement, which she wasn't fully on board with. And it seemed that these proved to be the make or break in their relationship.
'I love you Cat, but the timing might not be right for us,' he told her at the altar. 'This isn't a goodbye. It isn't a rejection of the love we share. There's still mountains left for us to climb and lessons for us to learn before fully embracing a lifelong commitment.'
Maria and Tom - Not together
‘I was surprised by how strong the connection is with Tom. For the first time in my life, I feel ready and open and vulnerable and give myself to someone,’ Maria said about her love for Tom. ‘I’ve never felt like this with anyone. I’ve never felt so sure about someone.’ The PR and advertising consultant, 38, replied, ‘It just feels right. I’m just so excited about the future with you.’
Being in Greece together appeared to make them stronger – but reality hit home hard when he admitted to being 'judgemental' of her career as a make-up artist and lash technician and their contrasting values. She's looking for a man who can fulfil the traditional role of provider, while he wants someone who is 'ambitious'.
‘I’ve never felt as secure as I’ve felt with Tom. He really is the most amazing man,’ Maria, 31, said, as she’s seen crying on the bed.
Despite their love for each other, Tom Stroud said 'I don't' to Maria Benkh at the altar, harbouring reservations about their relationship. 'I love you. I just feel like right now is not the right time for me,' he said.
Bobby and Jasmine - Married
We saw sparks fly between Bobby and Jasmine after choosing each other and forming a connection throughout the episodes and their connection continued in Corfu.
‘Jasmine’s definitely what I hoped for and way more. I had a feeling she was going to be pretty but I didn’t know she would have so much sex appeal as well,’ Bobby said of his partner, with Jasmine adding, ‘We just gravitate towards one another, like magnets. Everything was perfect!’
Bobby, 34, and Jasmine, 30, faced an obstacle when Jasmine's mother was concerned that they were moving too fast. However with her eventual blessing, the couple did go on to tie the knot. 'Best day ever,' Bobby said.
And their marriage has seemingly been going from strength to strength. At the reunion, the pair admitted that they were hoping to take things to the next level soon and are currently trying for a baby!
Demi and Ollie - Not married
‘I have truly fallen for you, despite never laying eyes on you. I feel in such a short space of time, you have already made me a better man and I can’t wait to continue growing with you,’ a smitten Ollie told Demi. Demi Brown, 31, was equally in love and their relationship grew while in Corfu. They were very open and honest with each other from the outset - opening up about their experiences with endometriosis and ADHD.
However, Cat, who he previously had a connection with, put a (brief) spanner in the works with their romance whilst all the couples were honeymooning in Corfu and Ollie, 33, appeared to feel overwhelmed. ‘This is putting pressure on me,’ he admitted, while Demi opened up about her worries of losing her man. ‘I really feel like he’s the one, but I worry that Cat might be his type,’ she said.
The pair managed to resolve their differences once they moved in together however and so, on their wedding day, when Demi decided not to marry Ollie, she left him (and us) stunned. Despite that, the pair have managed to leave the experiment with their friendship still in tact after appearing on good terms during the reunion and regularly commenting on each other's Instagram posts.
But Love is Blind UK may still have helped Ollie find love as he admitted that he's been on a few dates with co-star Sharlotte, a 35 year old communications officer from London.
Nicole and Benaiah - Married
Nicole and Benaiah were the last couple to get engaged on Love Is Blind UK, after she dumped product design manager Sam Klein right before they were meant to go to Greece. ‘Something didn’t feel right,’ Nicole shared, as Sam added, ‘I realised that something was off.’
Luckily, the 30-year-old divorcee decided to make amends with her former connection Benaiah. ‘I made a mistake. I need to follow my heart and there’s nobody I would like to spend the rest of my life with than Benaiah,’ she said. He agreed, and the rest is history.
And after saying 'I do', the pair proved that they are stronger than ever with an incredibly loved up display at the Love Is Blind UK reunion.
