Kim Kardashian is nothing if not an adaptable icon. Paris Hilton’s stylist? Done it. Reality star? Obviously. Dancing With The Stars? Came second. Legal career? Studying as we speak. But there is one footnote on Kimberley’s CV to stardom that we all forgot about.
She was once in a Fall Out Boy music video.
We know, WTF. But before her latest grunge boyfriend Pete Davison, Kim made a cameo kissing Fall Out Boy’s lead singer Pete Wentz in the Thnks Fr Th Mmrs video… Clearly Kourtney isn’t the only Kardashian with a thing for alt guys.
The scene in the vid is quite weird. Kim sits down on a red silk-covered bed in a white bedazzled body con dress that screams 2007. She’s about to kiss Wentz when a monkey in a fedora hat intercepts.
Trapped in some sort of love triangle, Kim then sneaks into Wentz’s dressing room and gets with him before making her way back to the monkey while the musician is on stage.
Kim considers the music video, which was filmed the same year that her famous sex tape was leaked, as her ‘debut’. She told The News Times in 2007 that it was ‘so much fun’ working with the band and that she was a fan of their music. Who knew.
And as if KimK starring in a rock video isn’t bizarre enough, it turns out she even ignored the famous showbiz advice ‘never work with animals or children’ to take on the role because the monkeys in her scene are actually real chimps.
‘I had to sit there and watch the boys perform and I had all the monkeys sitting next to me,’ Kim remembered of the shoot. ‘It was so scary because the trainer was saying, “Don’t call them by their name. Don’t look at them in the eye,” basically freaking you out—like “Don’t move.”
‘It was really scary because they’re so strong and you don’t know what they’re gonna do. And in my scene, they had to freak out a little bit, so they were freaking me out a little bit when they had to jump up and down and scream.’ Talk about a chaotic work environment.
Fans in the comment section beneath the video are, obviously, just as shook as we are that the reality show royalty kickstarted her career with the cameo. ‘I’ve legit watched this particular video hundreds if not thousands of times, and only just realized that’s Kim Kardashian,’ wrote one. ‘I will absolutely never get over the fact Kim K is in this,’ added another, while a third perplexed fan simply wrote: ‘I must be tripping.’
As far as paths to stardom go, we love this for Kim. The move is, characteristically, completely unpredictable. And we’ll always have a place in our hearts for 2007 Kim: the side parting, the nude lipstick, the heavy kohl liner. Flawless.
Wentz seems a pretty big KimK fan, too. Still thinking about the on-screen kiss in 2021, he said on his radio show Loud and Sad: ‘It’s just so interesting when you look back on that moment, you’re like, “This is like the last moment Fall Out Boy interacted in public with Kim Kardashian where we had the same amount of fame as her.” It’s funny when you look back at this stuff. Thanks for the memories, Kim.’
