After two years of absence, everyone’s favourite business reality show The Apprentice returned to screens with sixteen contestants once again battling for Lord Alan Sugar’s £250,000 investment.
Unfortunately, with every year that goes by, the hopefuls seem to get slightly more hopeless. Now in its sixteenth series, The Apprentice has been accused by many fans of losing its original drama and authenticity as contestants seem to apply for fame and followers over legitimate interest in long-term business opportunities.
But no matter the motivation of this year’s entrepreneurs, there is one iconic element of the show that definitely hasn’t been lost from the format: Karren Brady’s scornful facial expressions.
Sitting somewhere between a disdainful schoolteacher and someone that’s just smelt a fart, Karren always lets her feelings known as she watches Lord Sugar’s potential business partners scramble to complete each task.
Having rejuvenated Birmingham City Football Club to sell it for £82,000,000 in 2009 before moving to West Ham United and raising its value to £800,000,000, Karren has truly earnt her right to judge business acumen through her success.
And there were plenty of eye rolls, brow furrows and frowns on the series' first episode. She even brutally burst out laughing when the boys' team revealed their horrendous cruise ship company logo, which looked sort of like a turd going for a swim. It was, fantastically, savage.
Some viewers even went so far as to say Karren’s bold facial expressions were the only reason they were watching The Apprentice at all. One fan added: ‘If I were the PM [project manager] I would have someone assigned to watch Karen Brady’s facial reaction and feedback that these might be bad ideas.’ Now that’s smart.
Can someone, please, get this woman her own Youtube Reacts series? Or to appear on Celebrity Gogglebox? If she's pulling those faces at business incompetence, imagine the facial gymnastics she'd achieve while watching Love Island. We need to see it. Now.
