You know that deeply attractive moustaschioed guy from Narcos who speaks Spanish, saves the day and shags anything that moves? Yeah. Javier Pena. That's the chap. Really into that guy.
But, is he a fictional invention? Or is he a legit person? Let's find out.
Javier Pena was a real life DEA agent
In the show AND IRL. Javier Pena started his career in the DEA in Austin, in Texas at a time when, as he says, four ounces of cocaine was like 'wow'. Once he got to Colombia in 1988, things changed quite a bit. According to this interview with the WSJ, he says the Medellin Cartel were transporting five to seven airplanes stocked with $1000 kilos of coke to Miami on a daily basis to sell for $50-70k per kilo.
Javier Pena was a key figure in bringing down Pablo Escobar
'Escobar was the CEO' His network was so vast that is someone disagreed with him he would send eight, nine, ten sicarios and say 'Go wipe them out' they'd wipe out the trafficker, his people that were working for him.
'We're not expected to live beyond 22 so if the boss Pablo Escobar wants us to go and kill 20 police officers, I'll go and kill 20 police officers.'
It was after President Betancur authorised extradition to the United States (you'll remember this from the show, Pablo was NOT HAPPY), that Pena said the war was really on.
10 15 car bombs on a daily basis, bounties on police officers, the Avianca bomb (flight 203 that Escobar blew up in 1989)... I don't think anyone can put a number on the amount of people he killed but it was in the thousands.'
After Pablo escaped from his self-made prison, things again stepped up. According to Agent Steve Murphy, the two had a $300k price tag on their heads. They saw so many of their friends killed that Pena says they were in it purely 'to kill Pablo Escobar'.
In the end Lieutenant Martinez (son of Colonel Martinez - Colonel Carillo in the show, who did NOT die IRL), managed to get a location on Escobar by intercepting his radio conversation. A firefight ensued and Pablo was killed.
Pena was away from Medellin when Escobar was killed. Something he told THR was 'ironic'. Not that it matters to him. 'What matters is that he was killed. It was revent for a person that killed thousands and thousands of innocent civilians and police officers, including a couple of my good friends.'
Are Pena and Murphy still mates?
You betcha. They've started a business where they go out and speak to conferences and training sessions. 'We haven't really slowed down a whole lot' says Murphy.
Will Pena appear in season two?
Real life Pena won't say. He wasn't involved in the take down of the Cali Cartel which Netflix have said is what seasons three and four will focus on. Although, as those who have got to the end of season two will know, there's the opportunity for Pena's character to return.

Is Pedro Pascal dating Lena Headey?
OH WE WISH. How attractive would that couple be? No. In all honesty there's not much info on who Pedro Pascal is dating BUT there were a lot of rumours for a while about the two of them although they are reportedly just best friends. Both actors are notoriously quiet about their love lives - the father of Lena's second child has never been revealed.
