I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! is back on our screens for the first-ever All-Stars instalment, with a host of familiar faces tackling round two in South Africa.

4.3 million viewers tuned in for the opening episode last night, and many began searching whether the show was live.

The answer is no. Unlike the staple show in Australia, I'm A Celeb South Africa is pre-recorded.

Why is I'm A Celeb South Africa pre-recorded?

According to a report in The Mirror last April, the South Africa instalment would be filmed ahead of schedule to cover all eventualities. If the Australian version fell through again due to Covid restrictions - which had seen the hit series film in Wales in 2020 and 2021 - producers would air the South Africa series in place of it.

It is thought that the spin-off was filmed in September 2022. But as the show did indeed get the Australia go-ahead, the South Africa season could be halted until the new year.

An insider told the publication at the time, 'We need sun and new challenges. If we can get back to Australia – fantastic. Then South Africa would air early next year.

'Aussie authorities are pretty tough when it comes to Covid lockdowns and restrictions. If we can’t go, we’ll have this one ready for autumn, to air ahead of the World Cup. It’s a solid plan B, a win-win.'

What else is different about I'm A Celeb South Africa?

This series will not feature a public vote. Instead, the contestants will go head to head to become the first 'I'm A Celebrity Legend'.

This series was also filmed at South Africa's Kruger National Park. In Australia, the show is based at Springbrook National Park in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, and Gwrych Castle was used as the location when the show briefly went to North Wales.

What is the I'm A Celeb South Africa line-up?

It has been reported that several 'secret' celebrities will also be appearing. TV personality and nutritionist Gillian McKeith was the first to surprise the cohort last night by rocking up at the end of the episode.
