Ever wondered what the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter looked like at Christmas? Probably not a pretty sight. But muggle Kathryn Burnett from Seaham, England, has managed to spin her own magical twist to her five-foot artificial tree by turning it into festive paraphernalia Potterheads can only dream of.
Decked from head to stump with décor from her 11 Warner Bros. Studio Tour visits, the 29-year-old had to DIY some of the decorations to attach them to the ferns. With references to the series on meticulously placed on every branch, ornaments include Marauder’s Map, Professor Umbridge, The Hogwarts Express, Hermoine’s Time Turner and Honeydukes candy. Oh, and don’t forget the letter of acceptance to Hogwarts we all missed on our eleventh birthday. Unable to fit all of her HP merchandise without it turning into a festive buckaroo, the base of the tree is also adorned with the larger items such as a stuffed Hedwig (the real one wasn’t available) and the Nimbus 2000. And to top it all off, the Sorting Hat sits comfortably at the top, replacing the traditional angel or star. But Burnett’s favourite is the Cornish Pixie mischievously holding onto the hat.
Burnett’s Facebook album featuring close ups of the tree that would get any Potterhead excited has been shared more than 66,000 times. 'I didn’t expect this many people to share, like, comment or message me about it as it’s not a very traditional tree,' Kathryn said.
'When I first told people I was doing a H.P. tree they thought I was crazy. To me it’s just my little tree with everything I love on it.'
But before you get any ideas, the tree took about eight hours, or four Harry Potter movies, to perfect. Not only that but you’re pretty much committed to the cause until Boxing Day. Not a problem for the self-confessed Slytherin who will be dining in the Great Hall for a Christmas Dinner feast for her 12th visit to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Where she will also be looking for a Shrunken Head to complete the tree.
