Last year it was all about your Amy Schumers, Alicia Vikanders, Lupita Nyong’os and oh my, look how bloody well they’ve done.
Here’s the girls that are going to be all over your cinema screen in 2016.
Brie Larson
You might remember her from last year’s Amy Schumer funny film Trainwreck (she played Amy’s sensible married sister, which might go some way to explaining why we thought she was way older than her 26 years), but this year she’s coming into her own in Room, the film adaption of Emma Donoghue’s novel of the same name inspired by the horrific Josef Fritzl case. If there’s not an Oscar nod her way this year, we’ll eat our (terribly stylish) hats.
Charlotte Le Bon
No relation to Amber, Simon, Yasmin, Tallulah and the rest, this French Canadian 29 year old is an ex-model (I mean, really, is it tough to see why?). This year she was in The Walk with Joseph Gordon Levitt, and did the voices for some of the characters in the French version of Inside Out. This year, she’s going to be in Bastille Day with Idris Elba and The Promise alongside Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac.
Gal Gadot
This woman is going to *own *superhero films over the next few years. She has been in the last three Fast & Furious films but you’d be forgiven for missing out on them. You probably know her from all the hype about the upcoming Wonder Woman / Batman Vs Superman / Justice League films (she plays Wonder Woman in all of them). She’s Israeli and competed in Miss Universe in 2004. Oh, she seems really fun too.
Rachel Brosnahan
It’s Rachel! From House Of Cards! On the big screen! Real-life Rachel is in no less than four whole films this year, starting with The Fixer alongside James Franco about an Afghan journalist who struggles to fit in to his new home in California. Also looking good is The Finest Hours about a shipwreck, with Chris Pine and Ben Foster.
Sheila Vand
We interviewed Sheila last year for her part in Iranian American vampire film *A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night *(if you still haven’t seen it, it’s well worth a watch). This year she’s in Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, a comedy based on the memoirs of Kim Barker – a journalist who covered the war on terror in Afghanistan and Pakistan – that stars Tina Fey and Margot Robbie.
