The Connection Between Netflix’s You and Gilmore Girls You Might Have Missed

Gilmour Girls You

Last month Netflix dropped the third season of You, centred around everyone’s favourite murderer Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgely) and Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). After the show’s redirection and sudden cliffhanger, videos and theories have popped up everywhere from Youtube to TikTok. But this one is perhaps the weirdest: fans think there’s a link between the You and Gilmore Girls.

Yes, really. Gilmore Girls. That show we all loved which followed single mum Lorelai and her daughter Rory as they navigated their close but sometimes turbulent relationship. It doesn’t seem like a match with Netflix’s murder show, but we’re intrigued by the evidence.

This theory is based on social media speculation about the familiar-looking set. Love’s Diner, A Fresh Tart, seems to resemble the Diner from Gilmore Girls. As one fan put it on Twitter, ‘Wait wait wait. Love's Diner in You season 3 is Luke's Diner from Gilmore [Girls]?!?!’

The comparisons continued on TikTok, where one viewer pointed out that Luke's Diner is actually just down the street from Love's bakery. ‘Love’s bakery is right down the street from Luke’s Diner!’ the caption excitedly reads. As the camera pans away from Love’s bakery, you can see the GG dinner in the background.

The video prompted comments like, ‘the chokehold this lil town/studio has on tv and movies is wild’, ‘this implies You and Gilmore Girls happened in the same cinematic universe,’ and ‘Not them going on a killing spree in Stars Hollow! [the location the Gilmore Girls live in]’

But Netflix has confirmed to E! News that this isn’t actually the world’s weirdest story crossover. It is, however, the same set. Scenes from both shows were filmed on the same Warner Bros set in Burbank, California. The TikToker was kind of right as Netflix explains A Fresh Tart is down the street from Luke's Diner, where Lorelai and Rory frequently stopped for coffee and lunch in Gilmore Girls.

The fake town has been the backdrop for numerous shows, including Hart of Dixie, Pretty Little Liars and was even Mia’s place of work as a barista in La La Land. Some fans say they’ve spotted it in Friends and Wandavision, too.

So, unfortunately, there’s no crossover between the two series set to happen. The set designers have completely transformed what was once Stars Hollow into Madre Linda for Joe and Love to live in. Though, they haven’t changed too much, as so many have spotted the beloved GG cafe!

Now that Joe is confirmed to be in Paris for season four, maybe we'll spot some of our other favourite sets?
