Life as a teenager is difficult. You’ve got to deal with friend dramas, the fact that the boy you like probably couldn’t distinguish you from a cactus, and you always seem to get an outbreak of acne a day before that big weekend party.

The trailer for The Edge Of Seventeen is already giving us all kinds of nostalgic high school vibes. Cue the humiliating texts that were never meant to be sent.

The film takes a witty and honest look at what it’s like to grow up, with awkward junior school junior Nadine (played by Hailee Steinfeld) going through a tough time as her BFF Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) starts dating her golden-boy older brother Darian (Blake Jenner.)

The Edge of Seventeen also stars Woody Harrelson as Nadine’s sarcastic, somewhat grim history teacher/mentor while her less than helpful mother is played by Kyra Sedgwick.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of writer-director Kelly Fremon Craig and is produced by Oscar winner James L. Brooks.

People are already comparing the flick to John Hughes’ 1980s film ‘Sixteen Candles’ and Jason Reitman’s kooky coming of age film ‘Juno.’
