Dolly Alderton’s best-selling memoir, centering the trials and tribulations of friendships and romantic love, was all anyone could talk about in 2018.

In May it was revealed that the book was being adapted into a romantic comedy, much to the delight of readers.

BBC has finally announced the cast for the seven-part tv series – and now we can get excited.

Aldeton’s TV adaptation will follow two childhood best friends Maggie and Birdy, as they navigate their 20s.

The synopsis for the show reads, 'Set in a 2012 London house-share with flashbacks to suburban adolescence in the early noughties, the series is an unflinching deep dive into bad dates, heartaches and humiliations and begs the question: can platonic love survive romantic love as we grow up?'

Bel Powley will step into the role of Birdy – you might recognise the actress from her breakout role in Minnie in Diary of a Teenage Girl as well as other parts in The Morning Show and The King of Staten Island.

Maggie, the character based on Alderton herself, will be played by Emma Appleton. She is best known for her roles of Princess Renfri in The Witcher or the Last Letter from Your Lover and BBC Three’s Clique.

They will also be joined by Our Ladies actress Marli Siu playing Nell, and Gangs of London's Jordan Peters playing Neil.

The series will also feature a batch of young British talent making their TV debuts including - Connor Finch as Street, Aliyah Odoffin as Amara and Ryan Brown as Nathan.
