Looks like The Great British Bake-Off has found its replacement for Sandi Toksvig. Comedian and actor Matt Lucas has been announced as the new co-host of Channel 4's baking competition.
The Little Britain star and co-creator will join Noel Fielding in the tent when the show returns for its 11th series. According to a press release, the pair's comic chemistry impressed execs and secured Lucas the job.
'I'm chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television,' Lucas said on Wednesday.
'I can't wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I've already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!'
Fielding shared the sentiment about his new tent buddy.
'I love Matt,' The Mighty Boosh star said. 'I love his warmth and his comedy and his big joyful smile. I think if we play our cards right we could become the next Chas and Morph.'
The two will be joined by returning judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, who were equally excited about the new addition to the team.
'I’m a genuine fan of Matt's,' Hollywood said. 'It is such great news he will be joining us in the tent, he’s a fantastic addition to the team.'
Leith added: 'The combination of Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding! Will we stop laughing and get any filming done?'
The official Twitter account for the show has shared a hilarious video of the two new hosts rehearsing.
Toksvig announced her departure back in January, after three years on the show following its move to Channel 4 from the BBC in 2017.
'As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show,' she said, adding: 'Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life.'
Reports have suggested that Toksvig, who also hosts QI and co-founded the Women's Equality Party, was 'desperate to leave for ages'.
Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc were the original hosts for the first eight series on the BBC, with Mary Berry as a judge alongside Hollywood. However, the three women resigned when Love Productions - who created and produce the show - inked a deal with Channel 4.
Relations between Love and the Beeb had soured after the latter commissioned other reality shows based on the Bake-Off format, like The Great British Sewing Bee, and even produced its own imitation series called Hair, in-house.
Toksvig's stint on the show will officially end after The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off, which is currently airing on Channel 4.
